I am asking for your help to be on the look out for communications & marketing positions in the Greater Lynchburg Metroplex. There's never been a better time for me to move back to the 'Burg than right now. But I need to find a job to make it happen. If you know of a position, pass it on to me. I am hereby engaging the Flamefans network.

Sly, keep your eye on this web page: http://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=7754

And I know of at least 2 faculty in the School of Communication who could write you letters of recommendation. :D

I am working the LU angles. But I also know a lot of folks on this board work for other employers in town. Hook me up.

I think it's difficult for anyone to move to Lynchburg after having been in the professional world anywhere outside of this area. I've known a few families that were gung ho about getting down here and then when they compared salaries, immediately backed off. Now from what I hear Houston actually is not that different from here in terms of Cost/Standard of living so maybe it'll be easier for you.

I think you would miss Houston after living here for a couple months. But hey, I guess I keep talking my wife out of leaving. Keep your eyes on the Babcock & Wilcox job listings, they pay well and seems to be right up your alley. Also, Harris Corporation sometimes has some pretty good openings.

Houston cost of living is actually less than Lynchburg. Our first choice would be to stay in Houston, but with oil & gas taking a beating right now nearly everyone is laying off and not hiring. So as we look to our secondary options, Lynchburg is on a short list of places we'd be interested in moving. of course, God could have other ideas and we already have had initial contact with a couple of places that we wouldn't be as excited about ... but could be where God wants us.

I'll check B&W (if anyone has their job listing URL handy I'd be appreciative) and I didn't knwo Harris was in Lynchburg. Rueful & I know all about their corporate headquarters.

I can live with background checks. I can live without the academic requirements. But thanks nonetheless for the heads up.

If you want to commute to Roanoke, we're hiring.

jobs.virginia.gov, then go to the State Jobs Listing and look under Dept. Of Rehabilitative Services for Disability Determination Analyst. No special degree required, just a 4-year one.

He's already considering the downgrade to Lynchburg, don't make him sink any further.

Here's B&W's listing. https://mcdermottbwbwxt.tms.hrdepartmen ... chjobs.cgi

Roanoke is an upgrade in my ever-so-humble-yet-ever-so-right opinion :P

Besides, a state job thats federally funded so you avoid the layoff bug plus state benefits...you won't get rich, but you do get taken care of.

I can vouch for ATrain that the Virginia state retirement system is indeed a wonderful thing, and by all reports due to conservative investing is still quite sound. I plan on taking advantage of it in the not too distant future. Insurance, vacation and sick leave and other benefits are also good. Pay may not be up to what someone with the same skill set can get in the private sector.

This is true, but DDS has long been a backdoor into federal positions with the Social Security Administration and other federal departments. Federal jobs will pay more than state, and offer increased benefits.

Respectively disagree with this 1000%...

You can make good money here and the cost of living is very low. But Houston and Dallas are lower - weird, but true. You just have to be patient here and get on the right track.

What kind of job are you looking for?

The hint of sarcasm is apparently an acquired taste.

Houston does indeed have the lowest cost of living of the Top 50 metros. That and until recently the largest job growth in the nation have made this place a boomtown. But oil & gas are hurting big time right now. And that is very bad for my consulting work.

Trust me, I remember. Not as cold as another place where I am up for a position. My first choice would be to stay in warm & toasty Houston around my family. But times are tough economically in the nation's 4th largest city.
