Jerry Falwell Jr. is expanding the reach of his Liberty University non-commercial Religious broadcast group. This time, he’s going out-of-state and getting an up-and-running group of stations in North Carolina from Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa.

The stations include WAJC-FM Zebulon, not far from Raleigh-Durham; WGPS-FM Elizabeth City; WPGT-FM Roanoke Rapids; and WJIJ-FM Norlina NC. Two translators are also included in the package.

The price will be $1.25M cash.

That is my hometown.

When people ask where I'm from, I usually just say Raleigh because no one knows where Zebulon is.

For seven years, WGPS 88.3 FM has broadcast a message of hope through Bible teaching and praise and worship music. Next week, the station will continue a Christian ministry, but under new ownership.

WGPS Calvary Radio was founded about seven years ago with a tower on Wellfield Road and an office in the Winchester Station center off Halstead Boulevard.

Now its handful of workers, most of whom belong to one family, are telling the community goodbye as Calvary sells the station to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

The 24-hour 50-killowatt station simulcasts over WPGT 91.1 FM in Roanoke Rapids, WJIJ 94.3 in Norlina, N.C., and WAJC 90.5 FM in Zebulon, N.C. Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in Santa Ana, Calif., is selling all four stations to Liberty University in a deal that is set to close next week, said station program director Darla Ozanne.
