so does lynchburg even have 3g coverage for anything? Verizon just showed some stupid commercial and compared the coverage maps of verizon and at&t, and neither seemed to have any coverage in lynchburg, so if i turn 3g on on my iphone, am i just wasting battery life for no reason

Turning it on doesn't do anything if there's no 3G coverage here, which there isn't for GSM networks. (AT&T, T-Mobile) Enabling 3G is only a drain on your battery if you're actually using it.
Verizon and Sprint are the only providers with 3G coverage in Lynchburg.
