A buddy and I are running this in October, but I'm having touble finding Falwell Road. Has anyone run, hiked or walked this road? Here's a link to a map, but I still can't find it in person. Any help?

What, no half marathon? Come on, pansy!
Wish I could help. The trail system is completely different from when I was there.

I'm an old guy, but I have run two 4-milers in my day (20s & 30s), but now that I'm on the wrong side of 40, a 5K is about my limit.
Rogers3, are you out there? I know you run on these new trails on campus. Where's Falwell Road?

For 48, I think it's a great attitude to have. How many guys pushing 50 can run 3 miles without having a heart attack? (Or, how many 18 to 20-something Flame Fans could do it?)

Guilty.

It looks to me like it comes out at the Snow Flex center area. Have you looked for that end of it?

That's actually the end I'm looking for, because I don't think Camp Hydaway is open to the public. I drove through the Snowflex parking lot looking for a sign for Falwell Road, but no luck. I think I'm going to run the Monogram trail this afternoon to see if Falwell Road shoots off of that.

Many thanks to post office Bob, who called me from work and told me how to find Falwell Road. I ran it this afternoon in about 40 minutes, but the last part of that hill was killer. I thought my lungs were going to explode!
Running from Snowfex to the Hydaway Lake and back is a great run. All of you should try it sometime. Oh, and the road is right beside where the Snowflex intertubes are stored.
But you have to run close to a mile before you ever see a sign for Falwell Road. Come on, guys, we need a SIGN out there for our founder!

There's an outside chance that I'll be in town that weekend. If so, I'm in for the race. I used to run back there all the time, and I'm pretty sure that Falwell Road is at least part of what was a trail back in the day (circa 2000). I can't simulate hills at 8 feet above sea level, so I would probably be relegated to middle of the pack status on a course like that, but it would be fun to give it a go in the old stomping grounds.

It's literally a dirt road with some stone put down to prevent erosion. And it's wide enough to drive a Jeep down (though I kept mine in the parking lot). The road parallels a creek to the right for part of the way, and I saw some mountain bikers riding a trail on the other side of the creek. The trail ends on the opposite side of the lake, away from the house.

Saturday was a great morning for a race, though it was 44 degrees. We had 120 people running the 5K and 80 running the half marathon (200 total). I saw 3 LU Honors alumni running the race (and passing me), but I still finished ahead of about 20 people, mostly girls who were half my age.

01LUGrad , did you run the race?
