Faculty and Staff were requested to attend Friday's Convo (tomorrow) instead of Wednesday this week. Apparently Jerry Jr. is going to be making some announcements. Any suggestions?

I was just discussing this with my fiance. There has to be more to it simply because typically, Jeff Barber would make the big announcement if all it was was the football stadium thing. My guess is it also will have something to do with what anyone who saw the five year plan would assume if they looked behind the wyngate hotel, but im also not in the loop like alot of other posters so thats just pure speculation.

I will only say what I'm allowed to say:

Yes, it involves athletics. However, it also involves some things that will affect a lot of other events on campus that aren't part of athletics. There are upgrades both building wise and aesthetically that you guys should really like. Everything will be online as soon as it's announced. They'll be talking about the athletics side of it at the Flames Club luncheon.

Does LU stream the convo services anywhere?

I'm pretty sure it's streaming today on the Liberty site. The Big South is also streaming the announcement.

Vines will grow to seat 11K for Basketball and 12k for Convo. Jefersonian Facade.

Phase 1 for first game next year is mid deck above current deck.
Boxes on top. 16 suites, coaches boxes, tv boxes, banquet area, etc.

Then phase 2 adds mid deck to student side (23K seats at this point I think)

Phase 3 adds Arc to complete horseshoe and 30 seats.

One thing I’m confused on – the façade for the Bill. What phase is that part of? 1? Or 3? I hope 1. That alone will make it look sweet.

Seriously though, didnt we kind of already know all of this? It was in the 5 year plan, and its not like its going phase 1 next year, phase 2 the year after, phase three to follow, so why all the commotion?

Also, though on one hand thats sweet about the vines, thats horrible foresight. The vines seats what, 9,000 for convo now? And were at 12,000 students. If we continue growing by 1000 students every year, we will run out of space for convo again before 2015, thus needing another improvement.

This is really cool news. I would love for WU to have the student body population and support from Alumni (and Rock Hill in general) to do major construction like you all are planning on doing. Vines has needed a facelift for a while now and I bet you guys are excited for it. Congrats!

Yeah but it wont be capped for that long. This is basically saying we would be capped at 12,000 until the new vines center is old enough it needs to be replaced.

There needs to be things legally changed before we can go above 12,000. That doesn't just happen overnight. The improvements aren't specifically for convo.
