*update* Where did this come from (LU license plate)

I think its circa 2001 or maybe '02. It predates the tribal logo and possibly the official "LU logo". Does anybody know who created it or why it was put on the plate? It almost seems like they needed something to submit to the DMV asap and now we're stuck with it. I'm looking in your direction Wall because I know you created a logo that incorporated that eagle head and the clip art eagle (which I still see on new bookstore merchandise by the way). I'm hoping since you worked with it, you'll be able to shed some light on where it came from. I really wish that the plate made more sense.

James Arnold designed the head in the early 2000's. When I was asked to "mock-up" a new Sparky years ago, I wanted to incorporate that eagle head for the simple reason that it was on the license plates already. However, the one I did doesn't really get used any more....actually, it never officially did.

Did he he just create that head or are the square letters his handy work too? It just seems so odd that this stuff was never used before and then never again, but that's our representation on license plates.

I think I saw it on stickers and other merchandise before the license plate. But I think it was normally on stuff that didn't have the school colors. Maybe I'm imagining things.

I saw it on this white minivan today at BB&T and thought the same thing. The guy driving it creeped me out too.

I was given a shirt as a freshman in 2000, from residence life I think, that had that eagle head on the front corner. The shirt was white with black and gold font. I don't remember what was on the back of the shirt. I don't think anything was.

Now they give freshman like nice backpacks and stuff.

All of that was created before we had a brand identity committee.

That was the first time they used it, IIRC. James created the whole thing, then when we had to turn something in to the DMV, Doc said go ahead with it. I think we are stuck with that for a few years...I had heard it costs quite a bit to get that correct...rather we'll just let those expire, then order new ones.

Of course, I could be way off.

Hey, waddaya know, I just looked down at my mousepad, and there's that eagle head in the top corner. True story. It's one of the freebie mousepads our DLP recruiter used to give out when I worked there. I guess that thing infiltrated a lot of stuff.

I have the plate and it looks like the eagle just got a beak full of pepper and is about to let one fly.

I see it all the time. And I always wonder where that logo came from.

THRILLHO

Actually I just renewed for another year today and the one on my van is just the plain xxxxLB. I was trying to think of something clever but I drew a blank. Maybe next year. My truck has an LU one that says 1NCNR8 which made a lot more sense when it was on my other car. Would it be too geeky of me if I got one that said CONN? I don't think I want the people of Lynchburg knowing which vehicle is mine.

No one would even look at your car probably, considering they would probably think you spent a good amount of time in the Grey Bar Motel with that tag.

NEW PLATE DESIGN! I saw a car with a new LU plate this morning. Waaaaaay better. Would have preferred to use the red LU logo or better yet, angry sparky, but this makes so much more sense than the last one.

I wonder if I can switch from the old one.

Revenue Sharing: As a revenue-sharing plate, after the sale of the first 1,000 qualifying plates, $15.00 of the $25.00 fee is transferred to Liberty University to support scholarships for Virginia students. A portion of your fee may be tax deductible.
Is that new? Also, is that considered tithing?

Hoping a graphics professional like blwall will chime in on which plate he likes better (and why).
