Pok-E-Joe's

I know this has been talked about in the BBQ poll thread, but felt it needed its own thread.

I went there for lunch today. It is located in the Boonsboro shopping Center next to the Food Lion.

I got the 2 meat plate with Pork and Brisket with Pinto Beans and their cut/fried potato chips.

The brisket was not hot and a bit dry. I did not care for it a whole lot. I have had much better brisket in many other places.

The pork was good. Good hickory taste, moist, good flavor. The only thing I did not like is they chop all their meats. I would have rather had pulled pork, but it was still good.

The sauce was fabulous! It was really that good!

Pinto beans were so so.

The fries were very good. I really enjoyed them. A definite "get" the next time I go.

I felt the prices were very reasonable. The 2 meat plate was $9.95.

Seating is limited. I think there were 3 or 4 tables, but you could also sit at the bar where there were probably about 8 seats or so.

They definitely smoke their meats, as I drove around back and they had their big smoker out back.

Overall, it was pretty good BBQ. Definitely better than Dickey's, but I think I like Schmokies food better (although Pok-E-Joes has beter prices) And it is definitely not as good as Buzz and Neds, Burbanks, Super Smokers etc.

I've gotten a sandwich a couple times. Can't remember what the meat was, they would come to LC games and just sell sandwiches I believe - I just got one of my friends to buy me one when he went to get one, so I'm not sure what all they were selling other than sandwiches, drinks, and brand named bagged chips. It was both times, and that sauce is delectable.

Did you forget or have you not been there in a while?

Also, what kind of sauce is it? Sweet? Vinegary? Tomato?

Sweet, I think. it's been several months now since I had it though. it's definitely not vinegary, because I would have hated it then.

I ate there last month and was not real impressed. Had a pork sandwich and the meat was quite dry. Decent flavor but dry. I usually don't use sauce on pork but had to just to make it edible. Also the owner was kind of a jerk. Blue Ridge Pig is FAR better and worth the drive.

I take it they got some "free" advertising from the Sportsline before they went under.

Nellysford, VA (according to Google). I think that's in Nelson County near Wintergreen.

Poke-E-Joes serves pork now? I would stick with beef when eating Texas-originated 'cue.

Then I'll give them another chance. Good brisket is harder to find.

Uh Oh

I just got a bad review from a trusted source today. Can't say I'm as anxious to try it now.

I would not go back and get the brisket.
