The iconic Crown Sterling held down the top spot here a year ago. Is it time for a new champion?

Haha, Depot Grille and fine dining mentioned in the same sentence!

That was my first reaction, but wer had several people suggest it last year.
Frankly I am surprised Millstone isn't receiving more love. I haven't been there but my 86-year-old grandfather has been to all on the list and raves about MTR.

Surely one of the tops for fine dining, but like the Craddock-Terry and Shoemaker's, few people have sprung those kind of bucks to experience it.

Cant believe Crown is still relevant...if you're going to spend that amount of money please try Millstone or Shoemakers and you'll feel like you're getting far better bang for your buck.
I went Millstone, never had a bad meal there and have had a few at Shoemakers.

Crown Sterling is "Lynchburg Good." It would not be considered good many other places. I took my wife for our anniversary a couple of years ago and it was like the golden coral with white table cloths.

Is the Crown stigma still that strong? Have they significantly upgraded the dining experience over the years?
I admit that I haven't been in two decades. But it wasn't all that amazing even back then when there really weren't many other quality options like there are now.

why are the DPO and bull branch on this list??? it has to be shoemaker's. though expensive, excellent food, service, and atmosphere.

I'm not qualified to vote in this particular poll.
However, I had to get in on the Crown talk. Last week I went down to NC for my dad's 57th birthday. He wanted to go to this place in Raleigh called "The Peddler". My friend Matt commented to me "That's an ooooold school steakhouse, dude." I wasn't quite sure what that meant until I walked in the door. It was like someone moved Crown Sterling to Raleigh. Same atmosphere. Same prices. Same salad bar.
I guess people like my parents are into that sort of thing, but I find neither place impressive. Just dated and mediocre.

I went with shoemakers bc that food and atmosphere is great. I have been wanting to go to millstone for a while, but can only afford somewhere like that about once a year

I really like shoemakers, but it is significantly more expensive than Crown Sterliing (almost double) and The Crown ain't cheap!
