I'm shocked nothing has been posted on hera about it. They are releasing a brand new iPhone called the iPhone 3Gs and drastically reducing the price on the 3G version. New Macbooks unveiled - supposed to be the most affordable macbook ever, which somehow $1200 is more affordable than their $1000 macbook they had before this event. Never knew $1200 was cheaper $1000...

The exact phrase was "The most affordable MacBook lineup ever."

The entire lineup saw price cuts ($300 on average, $700 for the MacBook Air SSD) except for the low-end MacBook which is still available and still priced at $999. In addition to the price cuts all of the hardware in the lineup was upgraded including better displays, Apple's new high-end battery tech and faster processors. So, yes, the lineup is better and more affordable across the board.

Is there anything else that you wanted to talk about?

What I want to know, which Apple has failed to communicate, is ALL the features the new iPhone/iPod Touch OS will bring to the table. I heard there is supposed to be copy and paste on it and have even seen Apple produced graphics indicate it has copy and paste, but none of the releases or news officially from Apple I have seen have anything about copy and paste.

although i must say streaming audio and video will be great, i believe. i'm not sure how much streaming audio and video i do now is in http right now though. i wish apple and adobe could get some flash on it though. i know some of the websites i go to use flash but don't have an iphone compatible version.

oh and apple also announced the new version of safari was officially out of beta mode and is allegedly the fastest browser available, according to their tests (haven't seen any non-apple tests, hence the allgedly). if it had some of the extensions i love so dearly on firefox i'd be jumping on that. i like the browser, jsut the extensions are holding me back from going over to it.

also released info on the snow leopard update to their OS.

Bottom left corner. If you want to see how it works, they show it at some point the 3GS guided tour video here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/guidedtour/

That page doesn't begin to cover everything, though.

I'd hit these links to get a better idea of what's coming...

Etc.

sweet thanks! i like the idea of being able to shake the thing to shuffle music. note syncing is a great addition, now i can just get rid of evernote! spotlight search is cool, although i won't be using it much. i already knew about landscape mode for email, dont get why mthat wasn't native in the original iphone to begin with though - at least I can ditch my app that allows me to type emails in landscape mode.

at least now whenever i get a real job i know I can get just the 3G version of the iPhone on the cheap - although a 32GB version of the iPhone 3Gs is might tempting - it would definitely be enough storage space to ditch my iPod Touch. If I had the income to reasonably justify the iPhone, I'd just go ahead and get that 32GB one since I actually have the spare cash to buy nearly two of them (been saving money to get a new computer)

i couldn't help but laugh after watching the video and the guy said "with new features like copy and paste and mms." i'm sorry, but that makes it sound like we're back in the 90s and that was like the latest technology for phones.

I'm hoping for better support for encrypted WiFi in this update. My Touch sees my home network, but can't/won't log in because it's a WEP WiFi. Everything I get from tech support says I have to reconfigure my router to a different encryption method to get my Touch to use it. That's SO not worth my time -- why can't they make something that will just work with what people already have??!

Because WEP is a completely flawed and broken security protocol. It would be like installing support for faulty seatbelt mechanisms in cars after you knew they were faulty.

WPA2 is the only wireless encryption anyone should be using anymore.

I was following the keynote on some live updating site. It was kind of entertaining how many times the live blogger would get excited only to clarify in his next post that it wasn't available or something because of AT&T. Like Tethering.

Yeah, AT&T was pretty frustrating today.

At least they admitted after the fact that tethering is coming eventually. I think they must be locked in a battle with Apple over charging for it. People are already paying them $30 a month for "unlimited" data. I know they want to charge more for tethering and I can't imagine Apple wanting to take the PR hit for it.

I think Engadget's summary of the event is pretty spot-on, with one exception. The pricing for upgrading varies more than they've realized yet. When I checked earlier tonight I was given the option of upgrading for the same price as new customers. I think it's because I'm on the 1st gen hardware. Still, good summary from them...

As usual, iPod touch owners are going to get dinged $9.95 for the iPhone OS 3.0 upgrade. Hey Apple -- maybe switch these guys over to subscription accounting as well?
Engadget, that is stupid. I'd just sell my iPod Touch and get a Zune, Archos, Creative, or some other similar gadget before I'd pay a subscription for an media player...

Okay so are there ANY plugins for Safari on Windows (other than the ones like quicktime, windows media player, and the barebones basics apple has on their website). I just spent a half hour searching on google and came up with nothing.

I honestly have no idea. I've got AdBlock on the Mac version and that's all I really care about.

Apparently no one else does either. So I'm assuming that means no, which means it's just another run of the mill browser to me that can't even do the one thing I'd need it to do - give me the full version of my microsoft exchange email rather than the lite version. it's a shame, it really is, i tried out the new version and it's pretty fast and be my browser of choice if it would have support plugins on windows.

I don't think anything other than IE can give you the full webmail version of Exchange. That would require Windows/ActiveX.

exactly. after testing out safari, I was hoping to be able to make it replace firefox, but with no plugins/extensions, it can't do that at this point.
