What's being built above the Wingate hotel?

The last couple of weeks I've noticed a lot grading and clearing going on right above the Wingate. Is this an LU project or private business?

Could it be the college of engineering building?

It's LU. I don't know exactly what they're doing but they've made a path big enough for a car (wouldn't call it a road yet) to get back to a nice looking shed that has been back there for a while. I doubt that's the purpose of the project since it seems to be a lot of work. Maybe they're making parking for the bike trails since everybody uses Wingate's.

Ah, I was actually hoping for a new restaurant. I know they've been trying to sell land either above or right below Wingate for that.

And, I think the college of Engineering is supposed to be between the monogram and ski-flex.

You could be right, LUConn, it may be just additional parking for the trails or for the ski-flex.

this map may or may not help, but i cant seem to find anything that it would be.
its also slightly outdated (tennis courts are NOT going in the circle intermural fields) as its the future expansion map from 2006.

Well, it is in the area that is labeled, "Future paved parking". Looks like an access road off Candlers, behind the Wingate that goes over to a new paved lot above the first set of East Campus dorms and then connects to the big parking lot where Doc's Dinner and those dorms.

I don't get that master plan. They've already deviated from it. Maybe it was just to get the city off their backs.

I have heard that it is indeed the parking lot for the ski-flex.

I'd say the majority of long term master plans turn out considerably different from the actual plan. It's basically just a rough guideline that is constantly evolving.

The construction is an entry road for future dorms to be built.

This may have been discussed, but where is the indoor soccer facility?

Right next to the Post Office and LaHaye Student Union basketball courts.

I nearly drove into it looking for a parking spot and said to SJ, "that wasn't there last time I was down here"

they basically bumped LaHaye out another 300' or so. I think.
