why? there wasn't even ice on the road tuesday night or wednesday morning, so why delay today when the road conditions are even better? i mean the road in front of my house is DRY. LC is opening late too, at 9 am, but I just don't get it, there is zero reason to be opening late...

Yes, there was ice on the road last night. I ran into a few spots on my way home.

There was a little ice on my Jeep this morning, but I never even thought about checking for a delay before I drove in and set up for my 7:40 class. But I got there early (about 7:20) and checked the splash page, and there was the announcement. So I then high-tailed it over to Bojangles for breakfast! :o

i hit ice on a bridge at 10:30 this morning. just because its clear in one area doesn't mean it is everywhere. granted it wasn't bad, but my tires were spinning and sliding a little

Yeah...I remember one morning where it was perfectly clear but for whatever reason the bridge in front of the mall was a nice sheet of ice on it...there were 4 wrecks and another car slid and hit the cops car while he was writing tickets...very odd

You would think FNF...I did find todays delay a little odd

What was odd was the large number of faculty and students who had settled into their classrooms only to find out when booting their computers (or from text messages from friends).

In Basketball, this is what would be known as a "make-up call" (for Tuesday, of course)

There were puddles of water from all of the rain on the roads this morning. It was in the low 20's most of the night. Those puddles were then frozen, leaving spots of black ice here and there in the early morning hours. It was easier and safer to wait until they had melted.

Besides people generally play it safe the day after something like this happens:
Lynchburg teen dies in ice-related crash

By CARRIE J. SIDENER
Published: January 29, 2009

A Lynchburg teenager died after the car she was riding in hit a patch of ice late Wednesday and ran off the road in Forest.

Mariah Lynn Pitts, 15, died at Lynchburg General Hospital shortly after the crash, said Sgt. Bob Carpentieri of the Virginia State Police.

Pitts was riding in a 1983 Chevrolet pickup driven by Mark Wayne Crank Jr., 21, of Goode. Crank was driving on Virginia 708 when he hit a patch of ice and ran off the right side of the road at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The truck hit a utility pole, then went down an embankment and into a creek. Virginia 708 is about two miles west of the Thomas Jefferson Road intersection with U.S. 460.

Pitts was not wearing her seatbelt, Carpentieri said. She was transported to the hospital but died a short time later.

Carpentieri had no information on Crank’s condition. The wreck remains under investigation.

I don't doubt what you are saying Scorcho, but than why didn't we have a delay on Tuesday when the threat would have been more obvious?

I have no answer for that. I'm just explaining why there was a delay this morning.
