The man who oversees about $40 million worth of Liberty University construction projects annually started out digging ditches at the school 24 years ago.http://www.newsadvance.com/lna/news/loc ... row/11874/
Charles Spence, LU’s director of planning and new construction, “truly came from the bottom,” before becoming a driving force at the school as it sought city approval this year to expand to 15,000 students and begin dozens of new projects...
...Spence said the project he’s most proud of, which also was “one of the most challenging projects” of the year was building the on-campus gravesite for the Rev. Jerry Falwell Sr.
“It’s got a fountain with a cross rising out of it, with the (eternal) flame coming out of the cross. We had to get gas to the site, build a cross with a burner in it — all that is custom built. You’ve got to think out of the box and get really creative.”
