I need some help on something. I am looking to switch cell providers and wanted some help as to what works best in and around Lynchburg. I currently have Sprint/Nestel but am annoyed with them.

Thanks.

In Lynchburg, Alltel is the best. Once everything switches to Verizon though, Verizon will be head and shoulders above anyone.

Which providers do you available to hook up with in Baltimore?

And by best, do you mean coverage or value?

Most of the people up in DC/Baltimore have Verizon and like it. I am switching b/c someone tried to call me last night who had broken down in downtown DC and needed to be picked up and I missed all 3 calls. No log on the previous call log or missed calls in the call view. Needless to say, I was not happy.

I disagree - my employees with alltel hate it. Great if you are right in the middle of Lynchburg, but outside in the mountains...forget about it.

The merge will really help though.

Notice I said "in Lynchburg?" Although the only place I've gone in Central VA without service is a couple places going to VMI. Everywhere else I have had great service.

I have had Alltel for 8+ years...and the ONLY place I have ever had issues with reception is the stretch of 460 between Farmville and Appomattox.

Yeah LuConn and i had this discussion a while back.....we haven't heard that many people complain about Alltel, but they won't do crap to keep you as a customer. If you say your going to leave and go somewhere else, they will say goodbye and good luck.

yeah, I have alltel too and I have never had a problem with service in the Burg. But you are right, the merger will help everyone...

I have Sprint and get reception all the way to Lexington.

I've been with three different carriers here in Lynchburg, and there is only one place I've ever had reception problems with any of them, and that has always been my place of residence, no matter which service, no matter where I lived. Go figure.

If you're looking for price, you can't beat Ntelos, which is a regional carrier. I think US Cellular has good prices too.

Thats the thing sure Sprint may have 1 or 2 spots (that ive noticed) that you may have problems with....but find me someone willing to give you 2400 minutes for $49.00...it wont happen

I've had Alltel for about 4 years now. They have fantastic coverage. It's spotty in some of the rural areas in between cities around here. Their plans are a little bit on the pricey side. I had Sprint for 4 years prior to that. Coverage was pretty good in traveling. I always seemed to live in a dead spot though. It was pretty annoying. And their customer service is famous for being bad although I didn't really have to deal with them. I'll be switching to Verizon at the end of this month though but that's simply to get the BB Storm.

Verizon is about as good as anyone else, and if you ever ride the DC Metro, they're the only provider that's currently supported on there.

Cricket runs unlimited talk and text for $49 here in Houston. But I know they aren't in Virginia.

I love the "merger" of Verizon and Alltel. That's soet of like turkey and my stomach on Thanksgiving. lol

NTelos is very good in Lynchburg and cheaper than the other guys (at least they were 18 months ago). They run their signal off of Sprint and Alltel towers. Here Verizon is great. There's only one spot that I've ever lost signal consistently with every carrier I've owned and that was a 5 mile stretch on 29 near Reidsville. It always seemed to be a dead zone regardless if I had Verizon, Alltel, Ntelos or Nextel.

Can anyone tell me if Sprint works well in Lynchburg? Voice calls as well as data? Looking to change and need advice.

boost mobile. you can get "unlimited" everything for $50 a month on no contract [or just do the regular ole prepaid stuff], so if it sucks you can leave whenever you want. phone selection isn't like you will get with the contract companies, but they do have one of the blackberry curve 8330, the sanyo incognito (which is what I have and is pretty nice but it's no blackberry), and they apparently just added a touchscreen android phone (i would have waited a month had I known they were getting that!)
