1. that you wish you could go back in time and stop LU from doing.
or
2. that you wish you could go back in time and tell LU to do.

Lets assume for the sake of this that you have the authority to do or stop it. (Little petty stuff doesn't count like the fact that they didn't overturn your reps that one time.)

Without a doubt I would stop us from giving Sean Hannity an honorary degree. I know he's a conservative and all but he's just a talk show host. And not even a top one. I can't even listen to him most of the time. He seems like he was just a flavor of the week a few years ago. I just think it makes us look stupid and it's not like it really serves any purpose.

You'd stop them from honoring a guy you don't like? How is that not petty?

Have you recently sat on a large stick?

upon further thought, maybe I didn't mean so much petty as small and insignificant in the scope of the university.

I'd ask you the same question. This seems to be on par with krautmaster's complaint party thread about Junior voting for McCain.

Interesting topic, I'll have to think about it.

I thought maybe we'd get some interesting answers but I'm half expecting "not make the monogram" or "invest all our money in google".

I'd tell Doc to stay the heck away from PTL and Heritage USA. I'd tell him to run like crazy if he ever saw Jim Bakker coming.

Phoenix has it nailed.

I would have never switched dress code from button down shirt/khakis for the guys and whatever the female version of that was.

We call them pet peeves around here....but that's not my concern. This is for a whole other thread but what is your problem with him....at times I feel like when Doc died we lost our voice and then I feel like Hannity is the only one left that is a right winged political voice with interjections of theology....and wasnt his show like #1?

Probably. I listen to his show occasionally and it's not like most of the other political talk shows. I can't tell you how often I roll my eyes or have to change the station either because of something he said or what one of his callers is saying. He just doesn't seem as smart as a lot of the other guys. He does a lot of cutting off and topic switching when people call him out. And a lot of his stuff seems borrowed. Possibly by someone who is on right before him (but not in Lynchburg ;)). He's almost like a caricature of conservative talk radio. Like Colbert only not on purpose or as funny. Most colleges give honorary degrees to significant world figures.

I can't name just one thing, so I'll name a few off the top of my head:

1) I would have NEVER put up a HUGE sign that said "This university is politically incorrect". I hated that stupid sign! (probably about 1996)

2) I would have changed dress code, music code, hair code, facial hair code, etc. much earlier. I think it held the school back, attendance wise, in the 90's. I think the handwriting was on the wall about things becoming more progressive.

3) I would have stopped Jerry from talking about 9/11 with Pat Robertson. (I would have also stopped him from talking about teletubbies)

Those are off the top of my head. I will probably think of some more later on!

I'd go the other way, and not change the dress code. Ties for the men, dresses for the women.

One thing I would have done was beautify the campus and have a better layout and flow, which I guess still needs to be done.

Flow and Beauty

I agree about the dresscode and not changing it to be so scrubby for guys. Yeah its still collared shirts or whatever, but the RA's are way too lax with it, and some peoples hair is like 6 inches too long, and even though they wear a collared shirt, they look like slobs.

I also agree with Alumnus that I would have change the master plan years ago to prepare for some of the buildings. Yes its being beautified now, but it would have been great to have added in space for more open spaces on campus, more green courtyards, etc.

1 thing I would've told them to do:
Hold a fundraiser for a parking garage

Not to do:
I'll just keep my mouth shut on this one

Are you kidding, I wish we could have plastered that puppy up on the Vines Center dome!

Seriously though, this was during a time when Doc was taking heat left and right (no pun) and he's proud of the fact he built something to last that doesnt agree with the worlds views! I loved it, and it was funny.

And I'm really surprised to hear these things about Hannity I thought everyone on the right liked him! He is extreme hence why they placed him on a tv show with another opposite extreme
