This isn't a flat yes or no question.
Faculty/Staff - Yes
Students - No

If you had to pick one or the other, which would you pick?

I can't pick one or the other. I have absolutely no problem with faculty and staff and have every problem with students.

I like Super's idea of faculty packing heat to class. I wonder if a .44 magnum would show under my sweater vest?

Scorcho convinced me on faculty, especially night time employees. He said when he used to work nights he'd go outside just for some fresh air and there'd be random cars in the parking lot or people walking around and he would've felt safer had he been able to carry. I can understand that because LUPD is scaled back at night.

Super, that sounds like an extra motivation to get faculty to teach night courses.

yeah, i can see that too...but just another reason for better lighting around campus

I can definitely see both sides of it. However, I have a much easier time trusting faculty in general than I do students in general.

me too...sure, most 21 year olds with permits to carry are probably perfectly fine...but there are a lot of very immature 21 year olds out there...which is why there is so much trouble with college aged drinking...even the 21 year old drinkers...

Would hate to see a 50-something faculty member with a sidearm have a Vietnam flashback in the middle of class, though (yes, that would be faculty older than Fumble).

Or, another famous Clint line: "Are you feeling lucky?"

Just another opportunity for whackies to get easier access to guns. Can't sign off on that. I vote no.

It really doesn't matter to me if 99% of people are against this. I've tried to discuss this and all I've gotten is how people wouldn't "feel" safe. Feeling safe is not being safe, whether or not the students at VT "felt" safe last year because of their no gun policy did nothing to keep them safe. Public opinion does not indicate what is right. I'm still pleading for anyone who has any opposition to this founded in any real facts to step forward, but no one has.

Ok, so when prospective parents don't want to send their kids here because they don't feel their children would be safe with guns around and students start to transfer out because they don't feel safe, we'll get back to you then.

You clearly have not been paying attention.

It's incredibly difficult now, especially in Virginia, to get a conceled-carry license. For that reason, I wouldn't mind those who have labored through the process to carry. I voted "yes." I feel it would be okay for both students and faculty with a concealed weapons permit to carry on LU's campus.

I attempted to be polite, especially considering I agree with some of what you had to say- but when you went around the bend in the other thread; stating COPS are more likely to commit crimes than CIVILIANS with gun permits- I stopped listening. I rank the absurdity of that statement right up there with the insensitivity/outright racism of SHUCKS.
My take: People like A**FORME are a major reason why those already nervous about firearms tend to hate other responsible gun-owners.

Have I mentioned I love you?
And I know that was hard for you to type as clean as it was.
