I was in PA yesterday and saw most stations at 2.99 and when I got back here I saw it for $3.09. (I did see that it dropped today) That whole fake gas shortage thing was a month ago and area stations are still clinging to that apparently. We should be 20 cents cheaper than rural PA.

Breakdown of Costs for a Gallon of Gas
Drivers React to Gas Prices

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) -- Sure, gas prices have come down lately. But to 34.9 cents a gallon? That's what Kelly Joosten and dozens of other motorists paid at a Citgo station Monday. The sign advertised $3.43 for a gallon of premium fuel, but the pump cost read $0.349 a gallon.

"That was amazing," said Joosten, who normally spends about $100 to fill up her 1998 Ford Expedition.

Joosten proudly showed off her receipt for 25.36 gallons at $8.85. She said she saw other motorists filling gas cans, too, at the discounted price.

Station owner JP Raval says the attendant on duty couldn't figure out why the station was suddenly so busy.

Raval estimated 30 to 40 customers fueled up at the incorrect price - between 200 and 300 gallons worth - for about 90 minutes.

"People kept coming, so fast," Raval said. "Everything was crowded; it was like a fairground."

If you get gas at Citgo, you are a terrible human being. Unless Citgo is getting the shaft like in this situation. But I'm sure they didn't know what the price was until they got to the actual pump.

LOL....
... :oldhag ...when I was college-aged gas was around 75 cents a gallon...and I remember it down to the mid-20's when I was a young whipper-snapper. Thus...I cannot get excited about $2.99 a gallon.

Have you bought gas since then?

The only reason Im so happy is because all summer in chicago gas was around 4.50. It used to cost me close to $95 to fill up. Yesterday I filled up from Empty to full for $58. As a poor college student, that extra $37 means groceries for two weeks.

Actually, you don't have to be as old as civilization like you to appreciate low gas prices. I believe it was 99 cents around when I started driving 10 years ago.

Don't get me wrong...I do appreciate it going down...it seems it went from the $2 range to $3 overnight after Katrina...and never retreated back down.

I remember when I used to have an explorer and thought it was ridiculous to have to pay $2.29 a gallon

Fumble, when we started driving in '77, wasn't gas 60-something cents per gallon? It didn't take much to fill up my canary yellow '71 AMC Gremlin in those days.

The cheap gas prices haven't hit down here in NC yet. It's still $3.44 right down the street from my house.
