Ok folks,

Before anybody else asks me what is up with my using Ben instead of BJ in my facebook profile I wanted to explain what the deal is

When I got a job at WBRG in Madison Heights, VA I introduced myself as BJ Williams. Well Mr Epperson (the man who is now my boss) called me Ben. Well when I said I go by BJ, he said that Ben sounds more professional on the air. And with the fact that many employers look at people's facebook nowadays I wanted to have a fairly professional looking name on my facebook. I havent totally given up on BJ, as that has been my name pretty much my entire life. I just wanted to use my on air name for my facebook.

Take it easy, BJ. All of us in radio have used air names at one time or the other. At least Ben really is his name.

Epperson also claims that his father invented the popsicle. And called it the Eppsicle. No joke.

My wife's grandfather said he envented to pop up camper and called it a tent trailer. No joke.
Anyway B.J. don't sweat most radio folks use names other than their own.

I equate Epperson to Al Gore - he tries to sound imporant, just watch yourself around him because he isn't to be trusted.

Im back to BJ for now on facebook but if you tune into me on WBRG youll still hear Ben Williams. It is a bit confusing but I'll get used to it.

ive been BJ for 26 years. I actually almost had my name legally changed to BJ at one point. It s a litle weird not being called BJ by somebody but I'll get used to it.

I will say that almost everybody who has inquired on facebook (including my younger sister who GAVE me the nickname BJ) want me to stick with it but I dont mind having an on air name. I know a friend who just graduated from here in May and she used one when she was on the air much of last year.

I must say that I have never heard of a radio voice discussing their pseudo names in a public forum. Isn't that part of the mystique? I predict next time, we won't hear it discussed, but keep your ears open for a future radio voice by the name of "Slim Pickens". BJ, that is just so that everyone on this board will really know who you are but you won't have to tell anyone.

Ben I guess could be considered a pseudonym by the basic definition of the word but both Ben and BJ are derivations of my real name so I really am not all that worried

Fumble, you do make me laugh.

Look for HHS students posting pics of themselves with Ben on their facebook & myspace profiles.

I will be up in the press box most of the time so chances are I wont be getting pics with HHS students unless tehy seek me out before or after the game (Im sure most kids dont even know who I am)

Got to do the second half tonight...heritage with three TDs of 50, 1 and 12 yards respectively and the Pioneers won 53-0

i used to get a bit of a sophmoric chuckle out of the name "dj bj" back when you were on the air with 90.9...so ben would be an improvement imho
