Prevo could choose to end Falkirk tomorrow if he wanted to and it'd be gone. But he won't. And the Board doesn't have the power to make it go away without Prevo's signing.
Sorry, but I think Prevo is a self-serving joke of a college president.

I am just thankful no one on this board is on search committee.

I am reminded of a conference I attended in Hampton, VA about 25 years ago.

The Speaker said, "the most important person on campus, is the Head Football Coach "

Not at Duke, Kansas or Kentucky. 8)

If it were up to our football coach, I suspect we would likely see JR back. Since it's not, I expect he will wisely stay silent on the subject.

Frankly, there are some on this board who are more qualified as search committee members than the ones who are there. I know you are the consummate armchair coach of all things, but some here are deeply involved in higher education activities in the real world (which, in this case, is anything outside of LU's Board)

Some people like to find solutions to problems
Some people just like to be told what to believe
We know who is in what group

That was a great statement and handled nearly perfect.

I guess I missed out on the snowball fight thing. Was it somehow controversial? What exactly did Prevo apologize for?

Never mind, I googled it. Covid (of course). Waiting to hear about the massive outbreak following the fight. Won't hold my breath.

Some Karen’s had a conniption because it wasn’t socially distant and what not. People seemed to think they were tossing Rona laden snowballs at each other. It warranted no apology

It was irresponsible and a mistake. There wasn't ill intent behind it or a blatant disregard for covid like Jr would've had. It was people who got excited to play in the snow and forgot for a minute there were other things going on. That happens. Prevo owned it, was empathetic, and apologized. That's all you can do when that happens.

They broke their own policies and promoted doing it. Whether you agree with the policies or not, if they're in place, you have to abide by them. As the leader of the organization - and the one promoting breaking the policy - you have to own the mistake. He did it in a way that was endearing and understandable. In the end, he wins because of the way he handled it with the apology. While I disagree with him being the long-term solution, that type of public relations is what our school needs.

Ignoring criticism from within the Liberty community is what got us in this mess to begin with Jerry Jr.

I get most on here have a more casual approach with covid but LU has set covid guidelines and this completely ignored it. Whether you agree with those guidelines or not, it is important to follow your own rules. I know in the past that hasn't been the case by the person holding that position but I'm glad that isn't the case with Prevo.

With that said, he still needs to go. Just not for this :D

No doubt. He needs to go. But he got bonus points for actually “organizing” the snowball fight. Lifting policy is something that is done all the time by everyone of every stripe. Absolutely not a big deal.

I don’t think the snowball fight itself was a big deal, but the apology is. Having the humility to be able to hear criticism, acknowledge the other’s perspective and sincerely apologize is noteworthy. Under the previous president it would have been a mixture of doubling down in defiance and making cutting remarks towards the criticizers. This is miles better leadership.

Are we really still basing our expectations on how the prior leader would respond? I think we need to adjust some thinking at this stage. It was a pretty standard mea culpa statement that was appropriate under the circumstances. I think we have just been so starved for humble leadership that grasping at even the simplest of efforts seems to be overly celebrated.

For the record, public humility is proven to be among the most influential attributes an organization and leadership can possess.

I have much stronger opinions but anything covid related on this board turns into a way bigger argument and would severely sidetrack this thread.

But I agree with Sly here. Actually I find myself agreeing with Sly a lot these days. What is going on!!???
