I'll still go to Spry's
What's that? Is it in Lynchburg?

Yep. Here is what I posted about them earlier:
I went to Spry's on Timberlake beside the Blockbuster last night. They boast "Carolina BBQ". While it wasn't perfect, it was far better than any other BBQ I've had here in VA. I will go back there to meet my BBQ needs.

I love not being a food snob. I can enjoy food from pretty much everywhere.

I can enjoy other foods as well. But, when some place boasts that they serve a particular item just like you can get back (insert place or state here)....it better measure up, or you will end up with a 2-page long thread about how it misses.

that has been my thoughts everytime BBQ is brought up...I love BBQ, but I am no expert on it, nor does it matter to me...as long as I like it, thats fine with me

I went to Schmokies last night and it was much, much better then dickey's....

Pig Pork? That's a relief; there was a rumor going around that it might have been wild boar.

The key to large portions at Dickey's is the drive thru. The meat portions are huge.

Knowing you guys, let me add this.........Insert joke here:

I used to watch a lot of it but I feel like it's gone downhill a little over the last few months. I like Alton Brown, Bobby Flay and Paula Deen a lot. Well, I don't so much like Paula as I do her food. I had to quit eating that stuff, though. Butter fried bacon dipped in mayonnaise can only be consumed so many times.

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. That's a show that just makes me want to sell my house, buy an RV and eat at all of these places.

Just wanted to rub in the fact that I will be dining on Parker's BBQ this Friday night in Wilson. I can finally get some real, eastern NC BBQ. :bowdown

Bump.
Late to the party, but since the boards are slow...

I had the ribs at Dickeys here in Lynchburg. Hardly any smoke flavor and the meat was mushy which makes me think they "foil" the ribs. BBQ folks will understand what that means. I would say average at best. If I had to pick a chain BBQ joint I would go with Famous Dave's.

I think when I get back to Tucson on Monday I'm going to start a BBQ thread for those that make their own. I like to make traditional BBQ, so I'm curious as to what others do. There seems to be others on
the board who do this too. Unless someone else wants to start it in the meantime.

Mallet is on standby.

I rarely make my own sauce since I can pick Montgomery Inn Ribs King sauce from Cincy here in Houston at Krogers. But my mother-in-law cooked up some terrific sauce using pineapple a week or so ago.

I freaking love Dickies, but the Carolina style is nothing like real NC BBQ.

I got a brisket ready to go on the smoker early tomorrow am :tailgate

I love me some Montgomery Inn....every once in a while you can find the sauce here in VA at Kroger as well...When I do, I make sure to pick up a bottle. It is just not very often. All that said...I have been experimenting making my own sauce...

Dickie's has actually started to grow on me. It's kinda pricey so I don't really go there much, but their pulled pork has pretty good flavor. And their waffle fries are one of the best sides I've ever had.

LUconn, that was exactly the lunch I had today--pulled pork sandwich, waffle fries, & sweet tea--for about $7.50. Tons of meat on the sandwich and so many waffle fries that I couldn't even eat all of them. 'Loved the bbq sauce on the side and the big yellow cup of sweet tea. That may be the best pulled pork sandwich in town. I'd definitely rank in higher than the Silver Pig's sandwich.

I'd rank almost anything higher that Silver Pig.

BUMP

I have a friend who works there in management, and she just stated on Facebook that the Dickey's location in Lynchburg is CLOSING.

Even winning the FF award for best BBQ in the 'burg was not enough to keep the place open.
