Anyone want to write a book? I'm sure that will happen; the details are just too incredibly unbelievable. Rumors abound, including one that suggests that several alumni who hold sway with SBC decision makers want the school closed, fulfilling the wish of a number of pre-1970 graduates who sued to close the school after integration. Plenty of other things are coming out that will cause trouble for the current leadership. There will be one or two more anti-administration salvos fired by Friday that will strengthen the position of those who want to save the school.

Barely 20 miles separate Sweet Briar College from Liberty University.

But the real gap between them is a wide as that between past and present, failure and success.

Pretty vanilla, without too many assumptions that the common observer might make. One glaring false assumption... SBC got into its mess me offering too much financial aid to incoming students as opposed to not enough.

So what's the latest? Is a judge going to look at this?

Of all the juicy rumors that are flying around, one of the more interesting was that Disney may be showing some interest in the property. Go figure.

No source, in fact I can't remember all the details. Someone I work with knows someone who works for somewhere with some knowledge. Some state position or something-or-other. Clear?

Ok Sly Fox...

And considering Genworth hired a lot of state employees a few years ago, I'm going to debunk this theory now or I would've heard about it if the state was involved.

I do know about 15-20 years ago Disney was considering building a park between Fredericksburg and DC, to be called Disney America.

That would have been sweet! Why did those plans fall apart, have any idea? Lord just imagine how bad the traffic would be up there with a Disney park thrown in...

Local opposition, I think the land they wanted may now actually be part of a historical park/battlefield from the Civil War. Plus I'm sure Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens probably didn't want any competition from the mouse either. That, and winters have the potential to be brutal and Disney isn't exactly known for operating seasonal parks.

Well, there is actually some truth in the rumor. The head of SBC's board, Paul Rice has had dealings with Disney and was one of the people involved in the failed Disney/Manassas Battlefield debacle. Paul Rice is also involved with the Poplar Grove Golf Course in Amherst, so that has heightened some of the speculation. Lastly, Rice is involved in the leadership of an organization that seeks out and leases land to agencies like the CIA and Homeland Security. He is well connected at many levels.

To say I skimmed this would be an overstatement but figured I'd post it. Just saw one of my friends post it on FB today.

The problem with that is even if the charlottesville bypass hadn't been killed by our new governor, 29 is never going to be an interstate. A disney park couldn't function with the only access being a 60 mph 4 lane rd and 64 being 45 mins away.

While I would love to be wrong I see this as wishful thinking.

If you look at the planning for Disney Parks and Resorts over the years, they strategucally use existing infrastructure. There are exceptions in the Asian parks where they the government has partnered with them to expand roads and rail options.

If something like this did happen it would likely be less of a theme park and more likely a themed resort. Disney currently has three themed resorts not attached to a theme park. Aulani, Hilton Head Island, and Vero Beach. They had one planned for National Harbor but cancelled it several years ago due to economic conditions. Even a themed resort isn't likely because one common thread you'll see in all those properties is that they are all along the coast.

I don't see Disney doing anything here.
