ATrain wrote:As far as the new dorms, they're falling down...I live in them right now, and already there are cracks in the wall, and doors not closing all the way and getting stuck. The Cafeteria now is overcrowded, as is the computer lab during the day (just try and find one open before classes or after they let out).
Dorm 7 had cracks in the walls in 1997 and the computer lab has been standing room only since it was just a few rooms over in Science Hall. (After the fire of 1998.) I'm not saying it makes things any better, I'm just saying that as much as some things change, some things are always the same.

My point about a new baseball stadium wasn't that LU should put up the money for it. I would like to see private or corporate donations go to building a new facility. I think that's what happened at Wintrhop. Baseball is not going to pay for itself anytime soon, but there coud be additional revenue from a baseball stadium. College summer leagues, American Legion, amateur tournaments...etc. That won't bring in millions of dollars but it helps and it brings people on the campus who otherwise may never come to LU. Hopefully with a new AD and continued growth we will see more effort in the areas of funding and development for athletics. The new football operations center and indoor track are a great start.

Now this is way off track, but what the current baseball field needs is lights. I thought that they were going to install those once the clubhouse was done.

I think more people would come if they weren't working during the times of the games.

lights, more seating, and a new press box are very much needed at worthington. we could host district/regional high school baseball tournaments, american legion ball under the lights and could help with recruiting. a corporate sponsor would be great. hopefully new AD barber can make it happen.

On that timeline should be every milestone of each school. The timeline should stop at 40 years. This way, students can see exactly how fast this school has grown and the perspective with which they should view a University. So many kids come in trying to compare us to the biggest state schools without appreciating truly what has been done.

Another couple of lines should be that of the other Christian Colleges. This way they can see that LU (for all it's flaws) is not attempting to be just 'another Christian college'. Perspective would be good for young LU friends.
TALLY that is a VERY VERY good idea.

This is what we proposed, but I don't believe enough support was raised at this time to make this happen.[/list]

Wow!
Technology is amazing. How much cash would this board need to raise Prototype? :)

Wouldn't cost much to raise Prototype, especially if you are talking to raise me - a small female could do it - so it shouldn't cost much.

I'm guessing you were talking about the cost of the stadium - I believe it was somewhere around $350K.

That would've been sweet. But all things considered I'm happy with the new football operations center and the rink. Perhaps if one of us kicks the bucket our executors will send cash from the insurance policy to get it done.

OK, that was morbid even for me.

jeff alder told me that a potential donor was ready for the project, but he had to delay it. i hope the non-revenues will get some love form jeff barber. our facilities need upgrading very badly.

I was going to let it slide, Scar. Its good to see you took the high road.

As for the stadium, it looks ready for I-AA football. But I guess that's not happening anytime soon.

   ya got me Scar, ya got me

if 350k is the cost then it's just a matter of priorities...there's men even in the LBC that could swing that right now...I just think it's moved down on the list within the past 6 months

Now I'm assuming that facility wouldn't relocate the track. If that's the case, it also makes it a track and feild statdium. That is a sport that we seem to do well in and I believe we have a few invitationals? It seems like it would be a good idea to move forward with that.

Its become standard procedure in recent years for most large schools to have a dual purpose soccer/track stadium. I'm sure that would be the goal here as well.

I think LU hosted some legion this year--and have a couple of players from the Danville and Altavista program on the team or on the way.

In order to meet all of these events LU would need to hire full time grounds crew (1 or 2 guys)...this has been the biggest reason nothing has happened up to this point...

Yes, Soccer would be a Soccer/Track Stadium. The great thing about Coach Alder and pretty much all our coaches is that they are not selfish and look out for each other. Jeff could have easily proposed that a new soccer only stadium be built somewhere else, but he knows it would be beneficial for Track to have stands also.

The baseball field needs a lot of work. I would love to see a new stadium be built on the mountain and the old field be used for LCA. Hiring a ground crew is a BIG issue - it's the reason football plays on Turf and not grass - it's a full time job to keep the turf healthly, but I would assume Baseball would hire a grounds keeper out of their budget if they would build a new stadium, add lights, add seats, etc...

We are looking for a sponsor that is willing to donate $100K to build a deck along the 1st Baseline that would include 2nd level seats, full concessions and an eating area. I had a picture - but I can't find it right now - it's somewhere backed-up on our system:(
