Kinda funny, since most here don't believe with Piper's theology at all. But because he isn't going to vote for Trump, it is ok to take his side on this subject.
This stuff has been going on for many years at LU. It is not limited to convocation speakers either.

It’s not about taking sides. Piper’s theology is within the big tent of orthodox Christian theology, it even falls within the bounds of the smaller tent of evangelical theology. He shouldn’t be “cancelled” because he’s not voting the same way as the university leaders.

If this stuff is and has been going on, it should stop. Now is the time, especially given the current transition, to make these necessary operational changes.

I don't know enough particulars to say for certain he was cancelled because of his Trump message. But for the sake of this conversation, let's stipulate that that was 100% the reason.
There has been vote counting going on up there for many, many years. I do know the particulars of some of that. I also know some of the particulars about many people being silenced for their theological view, even though it falls within a small sector of the Evangelical world.
I believe the school was in much better spiritual condition, when our theological views were much more narrow than today. Unfortunately, that narrowness also went hand in hand with the legalistic, cultural, views held at that time as well.
Somewhere there has to be a middle.
Finally, I am not sure that the leaders of LU are as overtly pro-Trump, as when Jr. ruled with an iron fist. I know a lot of them did not support Jr's Republican, drinking, buddy for the 5th district of VA, nomination. I also know that he had a list of the ones that didn't and how much they contributed to the opponents campaign. (Public knowledge, but he had it close at hand.
Yes, we need to be careful who/why we ask someone to speak at convocation. There shouldn't necessarily be a litmus test. But, whatever path they choose to go down, it should be consistent.

Piper is one of the leading theologians of our time. While I don’t agree with him on everything, he is absolutely a voice worth listening to and exposing our current students to.

Might as well burn it down and start from scratch.
One good thing about Prevo is that he knew Falwell Sr very well. He was around in the beginning. He knew and likely agreed with the vision to compete at the highest levels of collegiate sports. That likely means prevo would continue to pour money into Athletics. With an outside hire, which will eventually happen anyway, could mean the end of massive athletics funding. I’m not arguing athletics over Christ, simply stating it’s possible to be Biblically accurate, Christ centered education and still compete at highest levels and put money towards that. We just need the right person(s).

Sports is a healthy, positive way to engage culture. If its Christian it should be better.

Stay away from hollywood and fashion

Big Jerry was a big Yankee fan. Mickey Mantle is to blame. Also, he was known to attend post-season games in the Bronx, mixed in that sea of humanity. Bet ya didn't know that.

Very true, but I was busy at work, and received a message via Facebook on my telephone, informing me that Pence may be a candidate, Then it was relayed to me as to his religion. But as Dr. Towns once said in his Pastor's Bible Class, "Google is my friend"
