The main roads in Lynchburg are great. I did notice that they are still working on the side streets but those are improving too.

The problem will be tonight when it gets down in the teens and the roads re-freeze. I would suspect LU will be on some sort of delay tomorrow.

That's a safe bet for sure. I imagine all the public schools will be closed again tomorrow and that LU will be on some kind of delay.

With a high tomorrow of 30, I don't see what good a delay will do. What do you guys think?

It won't be over 20 degrees until the 10 oclock hour. All the melted/accumulated snow will be frozen again. Only reason out there to delay, I suppose. Will be a very cold morning, in the single digits, and there will be ice. How much ice, and how big of an issue? Not sure.

I agree. The parking lots were really bad today and even if the school is able to clean a lot of it up, there will still be a lot of ice.

I mean, I wouldn't feel safe walking to class or riding a bus in this weather. :)

I would think a two hour delay would be in order (1050 classes)...or even start at noon (the 1205 classes). The sun will be up and the angle of the sun should warm the roads and melt the ice nicely. Add to that, the traffic, and I think we would be fine to have class. 740 or 915, on the other hand, might be too risky.

Just my opinion.

Yeah, at 8 oclock it's going to be about 10 degrees with little to no sunlight on the ice. Not good.

Fumble, Keep your Geometry to yourself. My valued opinion is that we should have no school, so that we can all make it to the game safely to the game.

Exactly.

We can all plan to go out and be on campus when the roads are good, wait a few hours to get in, and then figure it out from there on how to get home.

It's the practical application of the Cosine Law. Even though the earth is actually farther from the sun during our summertime, the closer the angle of the source of the energy is to 90 degrees, the greater the intensity. Thus, angle is more important than distance.

A friend of mine slid a few times about an hour ago on black ice. FFG just drove up the road to Burger King and slid a few times too.

Heck, I slid at 1 PM today on some icy patches that hadn't melted.

Watched some people on campus slipping on my way in.

Just not a good situation around here... all these hills and such make snow and ice that much worse.

I finally went out around 4:30 today and the roads weren't that bad. I stayed on the main roads and didn't touch campus though.

Yeah, 460 was fine at 4:30 this afternoon. But once you get off 460, it's a different story.

BTW...what are the chances that the news is broken here before the splash page or the news?

I would say the chances are pretty good, which is why I am keeping an eye on this page more than the splash page...

I vote for having class tomorrow: I've got half a dozen Honors students coming by for rough draft conferences between 7:40-8:55 because they have a major research paper due on Wednesday.
