i'm sure the priority will be 2-3 new dorms a year to keep up with growth. the perimeter road is already being worked on and i've heard that it should be done by this summer. that athletic improvements are all waiting until someone pays for them, or in footballs case when they are needed.
as far as the parking lot on the hill, there is a big field there that is not on a bad slope and would be fine for a parking lot, but it may catch some baseballs from fouls.
I'm with SJ in that as much as i'd like to see the whole circle dozed, it doesn't surprise me that it isn't going to be. Maybe that will be on the next master plan, or will be done for the final 10k SJ was talking about.
All in all, if most of the stuff on this plan happens, campus is going to be a lot better.

I think it makes perfect sense to NOT have the circle changed on the PLAN. If you put on the plan that the dorms would be torn down and new one's built, then the city might not see the need to approve the ADDITIONAL dorms. Once the PLAN is approved by the city, I would think the university could proceed however it wants with tearing down the circle and building dorms that will house maybe twice the students than reside their now; thus enrollment can grow more while staying within the context of the approved "plan."

My biggest question is this: this master plan is for us to get to 15,000 students. I know we own the whole mountain, but where the heck are the other 10,000 going to go if 25,000 is really our goal?

Yeah that's tough to say. I mean 15k is already gonna be pretty sprawled out as it is. Although I believe they've said that they're done building those fancy pants dorms on Campus East so maybe the newer ones will be less luxurious and more practical for holding large numbers. They had planned on building somewhat of a tall apartment building that was supposed to hold a lot. Also, how many students does the cirlcle hold now? I think there's 16 trailors 2 of which are 2 stories. 24 rooms per hall so if there's only 2 or 3 kids per room that's around 1000 students. That's a pretty inefficient use of space right there so maybe phase II will be building taller buildings in the cirlcle that could add a few thousand more beds.

25,000 is still a long way off in the future though. I think we will see a lot of changes happen and improvements made before we go for 25k. From the way i've seen things, the new administration is more concerned with making the students happy than the old one was. don't be surprised if the growth slows down in the next couple years

Don't forget that you can only build those dorms on the circle so high because of the airport being right next to it.. If I remember correctly they can only be 6 stories high...

6 stories is 6 times bigger than they are now, which means 6 times as many students. How many dorms are on the circle? About 16 I think. That's 300 more kids per dorm which is 4800 more beds. Which would take us to 15,000 without adding anymore new dorms. I think 25,000 is very attainable especially since the remaining 10,000 don't all have to live on campus.

yeah but right now with the however many circle beds we have, i think someone said 1000, plus only 30 east dorms that each have 84 beds, thats only 2520 on east. Alot of kids already live off campus, so we will need to build more dorms to get to 15000, or just beg people to move off campus. I think your assumption was that the 10,000 we have already are currently living on campus.

Does anyone know what that is? Would that be an indoor soccer stadium? I don't understand why we can't just play outside, or does that mean sort of like fieldhouse with locker rooms & coaches' offices?

I think it's just a soccer building with a practice field. Right now, they have nowhere to practice in the spring half the time. They're using the football stadium two days a week to practice.

Work begins on third floor of DeMoss Learning Center

Liberty University students using the library and computer labs in the DeMoss Learning Center have had to change their routes as some stairwells have been blocked due to construction on the third floor.

But these minor inconveniences will be well worth it when the 45,669 square feet of expanded computer lab and study space becomes available in the fall.

Work began on the third floor of DeMoss after Spring Break. The plans call for several offices, a “quiet study zone” area, a conference/seminar room, computer workstations and restrooms. An elevator will be installed in the middle of the space.

Question:
Liberty University is seeking approval of a new master plan that would allow the school to develop hundreds of acres of Candlers Mountain over a period of several years. Construction would support continuing growth in LU’s student enrollment and include new dormitories and recreational amenities.

During a planning commission meeting earlier this month, concerns about the expansion plans included the appropriateness of the layout, impact on the environment, and general effect on the community. The school in turn raised its own concerns about a recommendation from city planners that would require it to offset any waterway damage inflicted during construction by making parallel improvements somewhere within the same watershed. This recommendation, which planners sought to have written into the school’s development permit, goes beyond the requirements of state and federal law.

Explain whether you do or do not support LU’s plan to expand onto Candlers Mountain. Specify whether you do or do not feel the school should be required to comply with the additional water protection measures.
