the LPD says there are over 10 gangs in Lynchburg, headlined by the bloods and the crips.

the "bloods and crips" are everywhere....even in little places like Lynchburg....and even my hometown...which is exactly why I laugh at small town gangs...because they are nothing to truly fear that much...

Plaza = Future Medical School in cooperation with Lynchburg General/Virginia Baptist

River Ridge = State of the art Arena/Conference Center (LU/City partnership)

Candlers Station = site of a completely new "The Bill." If room enough pair with a new baseball stadium also.
Peter, if you are sippin' cider, you better check it: I'm afraid that it may have turned HARD on you. :nono

WSET said they were going to put DLP and phone operations in there and lease the rest of the empty space.
Hence, the Future tag...and I wasn't the first on here to posit that grandiose idea. :fineprint

Cider, what kind of reading comprehension you guys teaching up there these days? Study 8)

Just havin' some fun, apparently it worked, the response was visceral. However, perhaps I should pick up some lemonade, of the Lynchburg variety. (Yes, lest the fact police are out in full force on flamefans, I am aware that originates in Tennessee...geez, this is like trying to chat with my great grandma 8) )

First, hi to Little Liz. How are things over at LC?

Second, I alluded to this acquisition in a thread not very long ago. It wasn't obvious, but I did know this one was coming. There are a couple of telemarketing companies already occupying space in The Plaza. When their leases are up, it'll make a perfect home for the DLP and Recruiting call centers. The old Roses building would also make for a nice warehouse.

This one has been in the works for many months, but another gift is coming...

Yes, the old Roses building (now Startech telemarketing) was included. It's leased property. The theater and the McDonald's down there are on the property that was gifted, but I don't know the specifics of the buildings they're in and how everything shakes out for that. I would imagine the management of both companies constructed their respective buildings with some sort of land lease, but that's just me speculating.

If Liberty owns the movie theater, will they continue to show R-rated movies?

Even if we owned the building, we're honoring their lease. It's not like we're in the movie business now. We just own a piece of property that's already leased to another business. As far as the theater and McDonald's are concerned (regardless of if they're leasing their property or their buildings from us), I would imagine things will stay exactly the same as they are right now.

i think it would be a bad maneuver to not let the move theater renew the lease when it expires, unless LU has aspirations of a better move theater.

What's a move theater?

With new better movie theaters on the way around town, I'd be fine if that theater's lease wasn't renewed.

The same would also apply to the liquor store I've been told is on the property.

I guess the movie theater will stay open at least until their lease is up. There's another, nicer theater on the way with Lakeside Centre, and I imagine the movie baton will be passed once that's completed.

Too bad this isn't closer to the campus. Those theater's would make great classrooms for large classes. They could also renovate some of them for plays and performances (singing, acting, instruments, etc.) It would also make a great place for communication majors who are interested in directing to produce films and such. That theater would be awesome to renovate and use if it were on or near campus. That is why we need someone to donate movies 10 to Liberty (of course where would the students go see movies....I loved that place)

mrmacphisto wrote:Thanks for the info Liz! Good to know the place will live on somewhere else. I actually checked out the coffee shop thing a couple of times (they call it CANVAS) and they had a cool setup there. It's one of the few places to go past midnight on Saturday nights, and was a good place to sign out to for LU campus-dwellers (it is/was an approved late night activity).
That's pretty cool that LU approved it as a late-night activity. Their mission is awesome... really out to just love people. :) I hope they get bigger! They are going to have free wireless and super low-cost coffee ($1) during late-nights, too. (If they don't already?)

Jerry Jr. was on The Morning Line this morning and said we really haven't owned the property to make a fair assessment of exactly what we'll do yet. He did, however, say that all leases will be honored and a lot of them will even be renewed. He also said that C.B. Richard Ellis is working with them to attract new business into the area, and we'd do whatever they recommend in terms of renovations in order to attract new business. Furthermore, he said the old Roses building is currently the only space LU is interested in occupying and that the movie theater is in pretty bad shape, structurally speaking. It would appear that there was already talk of demolishing it before the property even came into our hands.
