I love how we have "sources" for this type of stuff.

Sharpton's coming in today if I'm not mistaken. It's going to be a who's who in America's influential people here.

Adrian Rogers was also on the list, but obviously he is also no longer with us.

according to jdub, there are QUITE a few more police/sheriff on campus now, and apparently helicopters have been flying over head? bedford county sheriff, lynchburg police and LUPD everywhere.

any confirmation of this, and any more word on who's in town or coming to town?

the "sources" might be credible...?

I would be shocked if there was not at least 1 President there. (and I mean U.S. president)

I have no source- just realize the impact JF has had over the years- esp on the GOP

I would be shocked as well...I am just hoping it will be televised nationally

Not that this matters, but the helicopter is called Marine 1.

FWIW: Air Force One (there are 2 of them) are converted 747s (also called a VC-25), requiring pretty long runways.

When not practical to use, the President has the option of using the 757 (also called a C-32) that the VP generally uses (ref to as Air Force 2 when VP is on board). That aircraft then takes the designator Air Force One instead. The 757 can utilize shorter runways.

actually a relatively common occurance. Not sure if that is what's planned- no one from the Secret Service has consulted me.

When I used to live in Round Rock, Dubya would land AF1 in Austin and then fly Marine 1 right over my house to Crawford. That chopper generated an amazing amount of noise and was generally flying at about 1500 feet above my house.

When Sr. Bush was here for graduation in '90, I believe he took Air Force One to Roanoke and Marine 1 from Roanoke to the football stadium.

I'd expect them to use Worthington Field if Dubya comes this next week with a similar flight plan ... althought hey could fly Marine One all the way down from DC if they so chose.

In '90, Bush Sr's helicopter landed where the football operations building now stands.

Anyone know if Mel Gibson or Shaq (works with Operation Blue Ridge Thunder-worked out at our gym) will be coming in? I think its a pretty safe bet Governor Tim Kaine will be there.

Going through the museum last night, he obviously knew many many famous people. I doubt they all come.

What about Wards Road?

I won't be able to make it, sadly. I'll be in town, but I'll be at work.

Falwell funeral to focus more on the personal, religious than his political influence

By Bob Lewis
ASSOCIATED PRESS

3:54 p.m. May 18, 2007

RICHMOND, Va. – U.S. Sen. John McCain isn't planning to attend the Rev. Jerry Falwell's funeral Tuesday. Rival Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani can't make it, either.

Nor can former Virginia former governor and long-shot 2008 Republican presidential candidate Jim Gilmore.

While some Republican figures will attend next week's funeral in Lynchburg for the founder of the Moral Majority, many will not. Experts say that even with a presidential election looming, it's not a must-attend event – and there likely won't be political consequences for skipping it.

That doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'd rather Doc's memorial service not become a political photo-op.
