There are trends though, and if you pay attention, you pick up on those trends. Systems that come around the mountains (either straight up from southwest Virginia or up from Georgia) generally produce stronger snow storms than storms that come from the direct west or northwest.

Storms that come from the west generally don't produce anything in Lynchburg.

That 80%, subtract it from 100%, and then you have the real percentage of anything happening. It gotta be coming at us from North Carolina in order for it to be significant. If its coming at us from WSW or just W, then it will do NOTHING!!!

NOTHING I SAY, NOTHING!!!!

and I hope the trend is wrong and that the millions of our taxes spent is accurate...but until then, I have yet to be impressed by the severity of the weather around here.

I'll post the actual readings from the printer...it's pretty neat to look at...this is what LU/Hillcats/and others around town call to obtain when expecting weather.

I'd venture to say we're one of the smallest cities to have these capabilities

So my grandpa says I can't post this here's the run down:

Starts at 6-8 timing is good

Ends at 4-6am timing is good

Snow total 1/2 in to 2 in

30 percent of 2 in or more

Dry snow no drifting

Main roads covered
Secondary roads covered

The Weather Channel probably spent more than that and they're saying it's a 30% chance. I'm not saying we won't see snow, but it won't be as much as if the storm came from the south.

There's a reason there are old wives tales and things like that. There are signs that have been proven to be true over the years.

The Weather Channel is consistently the worst of all weather forecasts. I never ever pay attention to anything they say.

I'm sticking with the NWS and Weather Underground. They say 80% chance of 2-4 inches.

Maybe I'll start a site keeping stats to show who's the most accurate. Let's see how it goes tonight.

Notice how the front of it seem to disappear when it gets to Roanoke. Doesn't the NWS issue bulletins including us with Blacksburg? I'd say they consistently have different weather than us.

Yup...that's those danged Blue Ridge Mountains getting in the way. Like some of the others have said...our REAL snows come up out of Texas or through the gulf.

The Mountains is why Blacksburg, Christiansburg and others are getting 2-6 inches and we're maxing out at 2inches but more then likely will end up with 1/2 inch

I was pretty sure you guys were saying we wont get anything b/c of the mtns...of course they will get more then us, I think that's pretty obvious...but they dont always keep us from getting anything (ie 1/2 inch - 2inches)

I thought we were saying that we never get anything good from the west. Yeah, we'll get a little bit, but nothing significant. Anything significant comes from the south.

I agree 100%! I never go by weather channel. NWS on the computer, and Underground on my phone.
