No...It was from a movie. Had to use a female. +10 if anyone knows it.

It was a fine day. Weather was nearly perfect, speakers and tone of speeches were excellent. The only annoyance (which I'm sure was the main point of the action) was the plane with the stupid banner that kept circling.

As I said, it was a very solid speech, and all the hand wringing and argument that we had a few weeks ago really just seems stupid now in the aftermath

No, actually, it doesn't. The hand-wringing had nothing to do with the speech's content.

1. Liberty University trending nationwide on twitter
2. 7 Media trucks in the FOC parking lot broadcasting the speech nationwide
3. Liberty University front and center on every major news network in the country
4. Those news outlets relaying that we are the world's largest Christian university
5. FBS ready announcement in front of 34,000+ and said media

Any other questions?

Today was a home run in every possible way. Every single possible way this was a home run day.

Some thoughts -

1. Jerry Jr. and Mark DeMoss, well done!!! You pulled it off, and we're now reaping the benefits
2. Jerry was right on when he quoted his father - We aren't electing a church leader or a pastor, we're electing our commander and chief and the leader of our country - put religion aside and VOTE
for someone with a like-minded world view
3. Romney was right on by saying hey, we may disagree on theological issues, but we have the same goals for this country and we need to unite around that
4. Net worth on stage was 4 billion plus. Truett Cathy and Williams are heavy hitters. Now that Cathy has an honorary doctorate, do you think we'll eventually see a big windfall? Our leaders are smart!!!

Overall -

Was a fantastic day, and I do not think it could have gone any better. Romney was perfect - not too political but just enough. Jerry and Mark's speeches were fantastic. A great day in our history, perhaps one of the greatest when you consider everything and the significance of it all. The kids on facebook don't get it...Would we be all over the news if XYZ religious leader were speaking?

Since he quoted himself and then agreed with himself, I don't know that you can call that a +2.

Also, if you disagree with the whole Romney thing, those are horrible reasons for getting him. You're giving the positives but that doesn't change the core reasoning as to why they're opposed. An assassination attempt would have gotten network news interruptions. Should we have gone for that? Liberty would have trended to #1 on twitter!!!!! Yay!

Here is something ironic -

Having a poor media market may keep us out of an FBS conference.
An opportunity for every major news network in the country to broadcast this speech or parts of it nationwide and put Liberty in the national spotlight was hated on by quite a few people here and certainly on facebook.

Hey, here is a smart guy -

"An invitation to speak at Commencement is not an ad-hoc endorsement of a presidential candidate or even of that particular speaker's religious or political views. The ultimate purpose of having a prominent Commencement speaker is not to promote the speaker or his views but rather to inspire and challenge the graduates and showcase Liberty and its mission."

Purpose, vision - check
Prominent speaker - check
Showcase Liberty - check

No offense to anyone, but I'll take Liberty on national TV and in the media spotlight over the hurt feelings of a few facebook friends any day of the week. Maybe I've "sold out" in feeling that way...but the bottom line is that there are thousands and thousands of high school juniors and seniors out there who have no idea who we are and THAT is something that needs to be addressed. IF a few facebook types are "hurt" along the way, so be it.

If I remember correctly, Didn't Chancellor Falwell recently state there were like 20k applicants for the class of 2016? If so, I think we are reaching plenty of potential students/customers.

Ha! 20k is peanuts for where we want to be and the mission of this school. Learn -

holy crap! I honestly didn't know there are that many people looking at schools. I know some overlap but wow. We are overpopulated. lol

Look at that list, though. The country's most populous state also has free in-state tuition, right? Wouldn't that drive up applications to those schools?
By logic

Back to the point -

20,000 applicants is great, but more is better. Let's be one of 30 schools with 30,000 + applicants. There are seniors in HS, Christian seniors, good kids, who do not know what Liberty is. We need to change that. FBS football will help. Commencement on national news will help. As they say in media, any publicity is good publicity.

Has anyone seen this yet?

Easily the best interview I've ever seen JLFJR give. Mentioned that we are the world's largest Christian university JUST ENOUGH that it wasn't repetitive or that it sounded like we were trying to hard, but enough that people remember it as well. The answers to the questions were spot on and echoed what I've been trying to say throughout this topic. Would this interview have occurred if "XYZ" pastor had spoken?

He even gave a token of appreciation to the First Lady. Overall the best interview he's ever given.

In quantity you find quality.

Crazy as in I love this school and really do want to see it get big-time, or crazy as in I lecture every stranger I meet on their hell-worthy sins and vices in life? No one has a problem with people getting excited about athletics, but they do have a problem with people trying to impose their beliefs on others. See the Sun Belt threads for more on that.
ALUmnus wrote:Does LU have a problem with a lack of applicants? Am I missing something?
Scroll back through the threads. My point is this -

1. There are thousands of Christians out there who don't know anything about Liberty
2. Us getting on National news can and will help change that
3. People were upset Romney spoke because he is Mormon
4. Said people do not understand how good that was for our school

This isn't about admissions. It's about every single high school junior and senior in this country knowing what Liberty is and what we stand for. Having Romney speak is a small step in that direction, MUCH more so than "XYZ" pastor. Football going FBS is another small step. Winning a BCS national title is a bigger step.

Bottom line is that everyone knows Harvard for their academic prestige. Everyone knows Notre Dame for their self proclaimed mythical national championships. Everyone knows the largest state schools in the country...Alabama, Texas, Florida, etc, and so on and so forth.

Do we want to get to that level of fame or not? Having Romney speak was a well calculated move by our administration in that direction.

Alright, you're going overboard. As Shooter McGavin once said "You know what else could draw a crowd? A golfer with an arm growing out of his ***."

Quit pretending like their aren't standards for us with your ANY publicity is good publicity talk.
