Adam Smith is usually thought of as the progenitor of modern capitalism. Wikipedia basically says there are some who speculate he believed in deism, but it's just speculation.

I don't really think its a relevant point anyway, economic systems are not inherently religious or not, and the religion of the theorists hardly makes a difference. If I based my economic policies on who I agreed with spiritually, I guess I'd have to follow Chesterton's distributism

That's the case with any investigation no matter how it's conducted, it's the investigators job to run down every lead and find the truth
