One must remember that this is just an allegation. Do I believe he is trying to get info, maybe threatening some to keep info on him out of the light? Absolutely.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Bored is not letting him run anything behind the scenes. He has no influence with them anymore.
Do I believe that D Corry, knew there was major problems for a long time, and did nothing about it? Absolutely.
All IMHO of course, can't prove it.
I don't know how Trey, and some others, can even show their faces on campus. I wonder if he is still coming to the mountain every day? I would have said, "coming to work" but you know.................................... 8)

I agree. They probably have some people who claimed to have heard from him.Whether they can prove it or not, might be another question. I would bet lots of money, he has though. I would put nothing past him or the GC.
IMHO.

That's my thing. I'm sure he is being paid way more than he should but the humiliation and shame would be too much for me to handle to stick around for long. Unless Jerry pressures him to stay so he can have someone close on the inside.

paradox wrote: September 3rd, 2020, 8:39 am I would never try to defend fundamentalism. I've never embraced it myself. And I completely understand that you need to find your own way as a reflective person.

A hyper-fundamentalist thinks that he can know everything from the Bible. A hyper-progressive thinks that the established academic analysis yields the knowledge that he's after. Neither perspective is honest or realistic.

My advice would be to avoid these excesses.
Had to reach back about this because it's one of my new soapboxes. What you are speaking on in what I would call modern gnosticism- the elevation of knowledge, whether from the Bible or academic analysis, as a primary Christian calling. We are not saved by what we know or by holding the exact right set of doctrines, we are saved by a personal relationship with Christ. I have witnessed this gnosticism be the source of too much unnecessary division in the church, as leading figures squabble over who's "in" and "out" based on sub-gospel issues.

Ok, I'm done, back to Jerry

I knew this was going to get ugly, but man, this going to be a brutal investigation.

Honestly I'm glad he's protecting his kids. Through this whole thing it seems to be the first time he's willing to protect someone other than himself. Heck up until now he has been more or less throwing others under the bus -- much less protecting them.

Yeah I don't think his first concern is his kids quite honestly. From the article:
He also warned Reuters not to question his two adult sons, both of whom still have jobs at Liberty. “Trust me,” Falwell said during the call, “you do not want to mess with me, OK?”

Yeah, Jerry doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on this one. He doesn't want them to talk to his kids because his kids probably know damaging things about him.

So here's my question. Let's say the investigation unveils all kinds of sideways business deals. Then what? What can happen? Does LU owe someone money? Does someone owe LU money? Would Jerry be facing charges? I know this depends on what they find, but I don't see what LU next move is since they've already bounced Jr and the deals are all closed.

Charges would depend on the nature of the sideways business deals. It's not illegal to give your friend a good contract. Part of the fallout will be getting rid of everyone else involved in the sideways business deals, holding accountable those who were at least passively complicit, and creating guardrails to keep it from happening again.

Will it actually happen? No.

But the sort of mess that those deals can cause will not be easily worked through.

I never understood how LU kept their non-profit status but that is probably where all these private businesses come into play. I can not pretend to be familiar with the legal side of things. I know it isn't good though.

Also, at Jr threatening the media. Comical stuff.

I thought about the anemic public messaging that the board is putting out and also how they are officially characterizing Jerry's conduct. LU will not be able to move on quickly. I'm certain there are multiple civil lawsuits being drawn up right now, naming both the Falwells and LU and possibly members of the BoT.

Also the investigation's fact gathering and findings will become discoverable in this type of litigation. Its also concerning the the forensic firm has not been named. Our board is loaded with SBC'ers - SBC is group that has a horrific track record of transparency for conduct by leaders involved with financial/sexual issues so I'm expecting to be disappointed by the investigation.

The real powder-keg is the allegedly sexual activities with active students. Regardless of those involved being consenting adults, due massive power differential between president/wife and a student this goes far beyond issues typical with supervisor-subordinate relations. Becky's alleged activity is at minimum sexual harassment with criminal exposure. I'm no lawyer but the criminal exposure could be much more serious than that (eg sexual assault).

Also as I stated before, Trey should be canned due to his involvement in the Miami hostel/liquor store deal alone if the reports of the activity at his property are accurate.

It is illegal to self-deal, though...CMA.
