He's always good for some laugher though...sometimes its because I'm so baffled that all I can do is laugh...but there is laughter none the less
How many PMs did you get for this post?

It occurred to me that someone might think my banter about the National Geographic program was directed at someone on the LU campus, therefore I have withdrawn the comment so there would be no such misunderstanding.

During Chancellor Falwell's Trump introduction this morning in Convocation, I think I heard him mention that construction on the new tower dorms to replace the Circle dorms would begin in January. This was the first time I had heard a time frame on this particular construction project. Is there any more info on this? Any drawings of what the dorms might look like?

Announced at convo this morning, and on the splash page today. The renders are amazing! As a former Dorm 5'er from 2003-2005, I hate to see it go, but wow!!

As Liberty University continues to make strides in its quarter-of-a-billion dollar campus transformation, Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. announced in Wednesday’s Convocation that the next step in this venture is the construction of a new eight-story tower residence hall in place of current residence halls 1-4 on Liberty’s Champion Circle, beginning next semester.

As the process begins, students currently living in those residence halls will be accommodated at the Quality Inn on Odd Fellows Road next to the Liberty Residential Annex (formerly the Lynchburg Inn). Liberty closed on the purchase of the Quality Inn today. Students will begin the transition mid-January and will enjoy the same services as residents of the Residential Annex.

Falwell thanked the students for their patience during the move: “They’re the ones sacrificing so we can make this university a world-class university in every way.”

The new state-of-the-art residence facility, scheduled to be finished by Fall 2014, will be large enough to house the entire “Circle” population and will be the first of six such residence halls that are planned to be built on Champion Circle. Falwell presented renderings of the future development to the students on Wednesday.

He said the current residence halls were built in the 1970s and were intended only to be temporary — but they have now been in use for 35 years.

“We wanted the current students to have the benefit now,” Falwell said of the new facility, which will feature two beds and a bathroom per room.

“The new dorms will help Liberty continue to attract the best Christian college students in the nation,” Falwell said in a letter to the students. “God has given Liberty the resources to make this university a better Christian university and we feel we have a responsibility to do it while construction costs are still low due to the poor economy and to do it without delay.”

Liberty has more than 60 construction projects currently under way, among them the Jerry Falwell Library, a new baseball stadium, a new basketball practice facility, and a (proposed) College of Osteopathic Medicine.

As fond as my memories of dorm 7-2 (1999-2002) are, the final plans look amazing and are a MUCH needed improvement over the old circle dorms.

Never lived on the Circle. Started on the Hill and then moved to East for my 4 years of Undergrad.

Man, those are amazing pictures. The parking lots seem pretty tiny in comparison to the size of the buildings but I guess most would be parking in the pit (do they still call it that?). Which makes me think, just get rid of the lots all together. Having all that lawn space right outside my dorm would have been awesome. But there's probably some kind of code where fire trucks need access in there anyway.

Another interesting thought is how flat everything looks in those overhead sketches. That giant staircase that goes from the beginning of the circle to the middle says otherwise. I wonder if they're going to move dirt to flatten it or if the renditions just don't reflect the current grading.

6000+ beds means they will have to come up with huge parking additions somewhere. It says one building will house the entire current circle population. That means they need roughly 6X more parking than exists now for the circle. The pit is already quite full now isn't it?

Parking garages underneath could work but no one asked me. Plus it would be fertile ground for ACOL!

maybe that answers my grading question. Instead of fill dirt, built up the low side with a parking deck to level it off and build the dorms on top. It's like a walk out basement.

I'd be ideal, save as much space as you can. Honesty with Wards Rd right next to us and the bridge that connect it to campus, I don't see why most students need a car :?

These dorms look incredible and really the circle lost its nostalgic appeal when they turned dorm 5 to a female dorm, haha

Seriously though this is long overdue and they went all out. Once this project is complete Liberty's campus as we know it will be completely transformed.

I'm not going to lie it makes me a little bit jealous, haha
