I dont think this is for the basketball facility...that was already part of the rendering that they released near the end of school.

BJ do you realize how many renderings of how the campus will look in the future have come out since I have been associated with liberty?? Plans can AND will change as ideas change and improve. If there was a better idea for a basketball practice facility I am sure they would go in that direction.

I have no idea if that is what it is or not, but its probably a good chance

Probably the same number that have come out since Ive been associated with Liberty...I know that plans change...heck my family did a major remodel of our house that started out with just the kitchen, and by the time it was done, had engulfed the entire first floor, so I know that things change. If this is for the basketball practice facility (which according to the last rendering of the campus Ive seen will be behind the Vines Center), I'll gladly admit that I was wrong.

Sorry for all the suspense but I'm out of state this week and can't really announce anything until I get back. But, since everyone is guessing, I will tell you it is not a basketball practice facility. We have already announced the location of that facility and bidding by contractors will start in October. It is not a football practice facility. It is not an amphitheater and it is definitely not a bowling alley. That's the best I can do for now.

So now we know a few things:
1) It's dealing with athletics and taking us to the next level
2) They've improved the parking and traffic flow around Green Hall
3) It's not for basketball, football, amphitheater or bowling

Also we can probably eliminate a few other sports as they've already had recent additions/improvements (many still in process) including tennis, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, T&F. Also Volleyball goes with BBall so that's out obviously.

This leaves just a handful of sports left including baseball, softball, swimming, and golf. So now the real speculation begins. And while we know there are plans for a baseball stadium they did just get a sweet new score board. Softball is way over on the otherside of campus so why are they improving the parking at north. For the last two, again why improve parking at north for golf or swimming. So now that we've eliminated all the sports, what is left to improve. Well only the most popular club sport on campus!!! Play Hockey Play Hockey Play Hockey

So now we all know that Lib is expanding the ice center no need for all the suspense  D1 hockey I can't wait Play Hockey

Yes I know this is way out there and probably not reality but hey I was board this morning so that's where my mind went with it lol

It would be nice to separate the track and soccer facilities. A stand-alone soccer field would definitely be an upgrade (with possible use for lacrosse as well).

Smoothy, the basketball practice facility, according to the May graduation program, will be behind the Vines Center, and the roof will serve a second purpose as a walkway across the ravine.

The basketball practice dealy is right in between the Vines and that lake. Sort of "underground".

dang I thought for sure I was on to something  lucky for the Mrs. so I don't have to buy another season ticket package.

Sept 3 can't get here soon enough so we have something real to talk about.

If you add both it is essentially neutral, however nationwide NCAA D-1 men's ice hockey is I believe the #2 most expensive sport to operate.

I love hockey, I played hockey at LU, I wouldn't have gotten to LU without it. However, I don't think it's time for NCAA hockey just yet.
Probably right but it would be great! I figured if you added men you could add women right along with it so as you say it wouldn't really change our current postion as far as title IX.

So looking at the list again. Are we left with baseball looking for the upgrade? I'm getting a feeling it will be a little more minor than baseball or hockey upgrades, even Lib has financial limits right?

Perhaps my original reply inferred more than was intended. The athletic department as a whole needs an upgrade and some areas more than others. But my understanding this relates directly to competition & training. I don't want to spill anything prematurely. But the word I heard had me jazzed.

I love when people talk about hockey and think that if we stepped up to DI we would automatically be one of the top DI teams in the country.

I have been to DI games and I have been to Liberty games...the competition is not even close.

It will be a long time until LU goes DI in hockey. Tons of money for travel being the biggest obstacle in my opinion

With that said, could this be the beginning to phase II on the football stadium? I mean I think it would be a bit soon for that but its the only thing I could think of. I am sure I am wrong though

Naturally I think we'd all be more than pumped if that was the case... But I think we need to add a lot of dorms (which I know the revamp covers), but we need more students in order to fill a larger stadium imo.

I think they were wanting attendance to be at or near capacity for a few seasons before they moved to phase 2. (I think that'll take a few years of being a contender for that to happen).

Maybe the big news is that they've decided to go ahead and build the phase 3 pergola. That would be HUGE! Think of the shade!
