high quality at S&K? I really hope you're joking.
Everything is relative.

So JDUB, do we shop at Armani?

S&K is pretty nice. I got my first tux from there back in December. Real nice stuff and the staff there is very personable. (Actually the manager of S&K came into my professional communications class one night last semester and answered questions on dressing for an interview and for work in general in the professional realm...definitely changed my view on wearing a black suit for an interview...)

I always wondered why people who aren't rich philanthropists constantly throwing charity balls buy tuxes? How often could that come in handy? Count me in as someone who thought S&K had nice stuff too. Obviously not some place where you'd go if you had a couple of Gs to spend on a suit, but nicer than stuff you'd find at Sears or something.

not unless you buy Armani, S&K sells some very high quality stuff as well as some lower end clothes.

That's cool. I hear CVCC had the manager of Value City speak to their business class.

basically the theater you folks heard was going near Kohl's is what is going in the mall according to the wset news tonight. Sounds nice, but unless they charge 1-1.50 a movie they aren't getting my business.

And S&K is high quality compared to Value City/Burlington

you get what you pay for. I would probably buy a suit there because I am poor, but Jos. A Banks or somewhere similar you could get much nicer suits.
did you know that the lining in a lot of the S&K suits is glued in, so if you leave it in the car on a hot summer day the lining can begin to come out?
for no more than i wear one, I would buy one there, but lets be honest, they aren't high quality unless maybe you get their top of the line suit

why on earth would they put another theatre in the mall that (a) already has a theatre, albeit a crappy one but (b) is most likely going out of business in the next few years and (c) is a rock throw away from a dollar theatre.

Yet Liberty is the one who needs to work on our planning?(not saying this is the city's planning, just saying its the dumbest thing I have ever heard)

the current theater in the mall wont exist once this once opens... also, people will still pay 5 dollars (is that how much it costs to see a movie nowadays? i only go to the dollar theater) to go to a movie instead of waiting until it gets to the dollar theater, a lot of people don't like waiting, they want instant gratification...

I'll chalk that up as potential sarcasm but it was pretty nice.

My dad goes to a lot of events becuase of his status in the Suffolk area (he's had his medical practice in downtown for almost 25 years) so he has a pretty nice tux in his closet. The nice thing about having one for myself now is that all I really need to change is the vest and tie.

he bought a tux...never has it cleaned, only changes his vest and tie to create the illusion that he is wearing something different

I do get it cleaned HMO...you're silly sometimes...what I meant was that what is nice for having my own is that I can clean the suit, and wear it again for a formal event but just buy a different vest and tie. I have a red vest and tie that I got when I bought the tux back in December.

JDUB as a suit wearer, I will say that you are correct that you get what you pay for. However, not ALL S and K suits are like that. Jos A Banks is a nice place and you can get good AND bad suits (quality Wise) there, but most of their stuff is great. As for S and K, their MIddle of the road and High End suits are of very nice quality. When buying a suit you have to first determine if you are going to make it a "work" suit or an "event" suit and go from there.

As for the Theatre I am FIRED UP BABY, not sure we need 14 screens (Unless the one at the Plaze is going bye bye) but lvoe the stadium seating and the surround sound and hopefully they will pop their OWN popcorn .

my guess is the one at the plaza will be closing down....

what does this do as far as plans go for the stadium seating theatre that once was talked about at both the Lakeside development and the LU development?

According to Saturday's Lynchburg fishwrap, Value City is closing in July and a 14-screen theatre is going in there in its place.
Value City will close at River Ridge mall in July, and next year will be replaced by a 14-screen movie theater, the mall’s owners announced Friday. The new 2,400-seat theater, managed by Regal Entertainment Group, is expected to open in fall 2009...Dolan said the movieplex will bring more traffic and “continue to make the mall a destination point for entertainment.” The 56,000-square-foot theater will include high-backed plush chairs in stadium seating and digital surround sound, according to the release.

so is it obvious to anybody else that the local media got this info from here and then confirmed it from other sources? That's pretty lame not to cite us.

Whats lame is that half of us don't even live here yet know more about whats going on than the local media.

this is not surprising. regal bought all the consolidated movies theatres in this area including the valley view complex in roanoke, so it makes sense that they would close the smaller theatre there and open a bigger one.

does it make sense that they would open a brand new theatre that's success is contingent on the life of a dinosaur concept of "the mall"? They probably can't wait 2 or 3 years on the potential of Crossroads Colonnade, but I would think a free standing one besides Wards Crossing would be a better business decision than river ridge.

maybe the colonnade is not planning a theatre. maybe the owners of river ridge are possibly getting ready for a renovation. i have not seen the plans but maybe this theatre will not have mall access from the inside of the mall. that is a large tract, plus there is no shortage of parking, and it's not on wards rd. regal theatres have been around for quite some time, so im sure they did their homework.
