Forget Osaka's. If you want good fast-food Japanese, Tokyo Express on Timberlake in the Kroger shopping center (behind TGI Friday's) is where it's at. They will beat any other place in town, hands down.

The Neighbor's Place, The Depot (downtown), and Liberty Station in Bedford are all slightly more expensive places to get great food.

On the cheap: For good burgers, The Cavalier seems to be the way to go. Wonderful Italian food can be found at Vinny's on Timberlake (just off of 501). If you've got kids, take them to CiCi's in Candler's Plaza and let them eat until they bust. It's not the best pizza I've ever had, but it's cheap and a buffet.

The chain joints are all the same no matter where you go, but it's still nice to have them in town. I remember when they weren't here and I don't want go back. If the chains are your thing, Chili's is on the way to join the Wards Rd. madness. Remember, you heard it here first. :D

And speaking of chains, I think I'm addicted to Panera Bread now that it's finally open.

I have friends that work at Panera. Let's just say I eat there all the time.

I'll hafta try the other take out place. I actually haven't even been on Timberlake yet. It's kinda sad. I need to just go drive around one day to learn the town but I don't have the gas to.

SJ - Are you in County Green apartments? I lived there when I was in school. And for the record, Timberlake isn't that far from either the school or those apartments.

As for Panera Bread, they do make some nice sandwiches. Cici's is all right, but if you're ever in Texas you need to check out the buffet at Double Daves. They have the best pepperoni rolls I've ever had anywhere (and I've had more than my share).

Yea, I'm in County Green apartments. And I know Timberlake is right in between the school and here, I just haven't taken the time to drive down the road. I'm in 310E.

Believe it or not, its been 17 years since I lived there but I remember being in 310 as well. I was on the second story taking the stairway up to the door on the right in the middle of the building. How I remember that I do not know. I can't even remeber what I ate for dinner tonight.

When my buddies and I were checking out apartments, the manager was taking us up the stairs to show us the place when two LU cheerladers came out of the door next to the one she was showing us in bikinis. There could've been rats and roaches frolicking everywhere and we would've taken the place. Alas we rarely if ever saw the girls at the complex again. But it was a cool place to live nonetheless.

That woulda been 310G. I don't know if it was 310 Killarney (where I am, you can see the pool from my apartment) or another 310. I have friends right across in 310H and it's great.

310 Killarney is definitely the place. We could see the pool from the front stairway, but not from inside the apartment. We had a view of some woods. Whoopee.

Hey, I lived at County Green after I got married for a few months. 305B Hillwood. That's the building that's down on the other side of that valley in the back. It's lonely back there.

Yea, Sly, I see your apartment all the time. I don't know who lives there now. I've only seen someone go in there once.

County Green is great. Not expensive, good location, all of that. And it's even better when two of your better friends are in the same building. People come over all the time and it's basically just walking back and forth between apartments.

You got a point. I can't even get a date so I don't hate that problem. I can see how it'd be a problem.

Going back to Panera...I just turned around and there were 8 sandwiches, a bag of cookies, and a bag of bagels from Panera in my den. Free food is amazing.

SJ I was in 304 Killarney at one point. I am actually just up the street on Woodway Dr now. SO if you have any extra bagels you can drop them off.

Ok...time to let someone who grew up in the area (Hey...Farmville's only an hour away) to give a complete list of basically everywhere to eat:
La Caretta on Timberlake Rd.-definitely the best Mexican in LBurg
Ale House-great food
Texas Steak House-also has great food
Texas Road House-more great food
Backyard Grill-good food
5 guys-great burgers, gross fries
Logan's-definitely my favorite non-Japanese place to eat
Kyoto's-MY FAVORITE PLACE, also a little expensive, but well worth it IMO
O'Charley's-good food
TGI Friday's-love the food there
Shaker's-also has good food, but I haven't eaten there in a while
Outback-awesome food
Red Lobster-best (and probably only) seafood in town
Texas Inn-I've actually never been there
Ruby Tuesday's-excellent salad bar
Cracker Barrel-fact that they moved to LBurg just kinda ruined the whole experience for me, but its still got good food...my family used to eat at Cracker Barrel every time we went outta town, but now, its not so special anymore.
Panera Bread-haven't eaten here yet
Starbucks-yummy coffee
Coldstone Creamery-THE BEST ICE CREAM...EVER

The cracks on someone from Farmville offering up viewpoints on fine dining are too obvious to even touch.

Ale House - I'm intrigued
Backyard Grill - Likewise

5 guys - It sound slike we'll most definitely be giving this place a try. Thanks for the heads up on the fries. How are the onion rings?

La Caretta - Unless it has improved dramatically over the past two decades its not worth even mentioning. You guys seriously need a real Taqueria in Lynchburg.

Shaker's - That was the standard issue date restaurant when I was in school. I'm actually surprised that it is still in business.

Texas Inn & Texas Steak House - I avoid eating at places with Texas in the title. It never lives up to the billing.

I can eat at all of the following on my side of Houston:

Texas Road House
Logans Road House
Kyoto
O'Charleys
TGI Fridays
Outback
Red Lobster
Ruby Tuesdays
Cracker Barrel
Panera Bread
Starbucks
Coldstone

OK, I have been dying to chime in on this but I wanted to read everything first. As far as the place with the tophat that Pamedic keeps mentioning it IS Macado's which has been touched on a few times on this thread. Now to address the 5 Guys issue. Truth be told they have the best fries this side of Boardwalk Fries. But the one in Lynchburg is a horrible 5 Guys. Sly if you go to DC, stop at the one in Charlottesville, or Warrenton or any of the 20 in the DC area. They do it right. I love 5 Guys but we don't even go to the one here because it is terrible. Panera is a favorite of ours from Northern VA and we are happy to have it here in the Burg finally. I know you have great TEX/MEX down there but I like a chain called Chipotle but they don't have them here yet. You will have to get that in DC as well or Richmond. If I am not working (which I probably will be in Richmond or DC, I will show you around and take you to my spots. I love Vinny's btw. The one on Timberlake Rd has the best spinach dip in the world! OIP (Original Italian Pizza) on 221 is cheap and really, really good if you like Italian. Steak Stromboli or any Calazone is highly recommended. There is a Philly Cheese Steak place here tucked away in Boonsboro that is run by an original Philadelphian called the PhilaDeli. It is good but not quite like being in Philly.

Jon, if you go to the intersection of Lynchburg Expressway and Lakeside drive where the Honda Dealership is, that is 221. Actually 221 and Old Forest Road meet at that dealership. From your place though I would go to LC and get on Lakeside drive and keep driving until it turns to into 221 and then you will see a Food Lion plaza on the left. OIP is in that Plaza (Burger King , Quiznos, Wachovia).

Medic & I don't agree on many things but sweet tea is one of them. Sweet Tea is more like Koolaid than real tea. Quality tea doesn't need have a half pound of sugar poured in it. Lousy tea, well that's a different situation and perhaps that is why Southerners are so smitten by Sweet Tea. I have the same issues down here in Texas. The teas down here are so watered down they seldom resemble real tea. But I douse my teas with lime like the Mexicanos.
