i havent been to valley view in a good while, what are these higher end stores they have added?

well shuk at valley view they have added abercrombie, bombay co, eddie bauer, hollister co, ann taylor loft, gymboree and hibbett sports. as far as what this new mall could see would be:
stores
bebe
apple
hibbett sports
ALDO
crabtree and evelyn
cole haan
banana republic
nordstrom
dillards
williams sonoma
body shop
crate and barrel
discovery channel store
restoration hardware
brooks bros
pottery barn
jos a. bank
j. crew
coach

restauraunts:
champps americana
caribou coffee
firebirds rocky mt. grille
chilis
romano's macaroni grille
california pizza kitchen
cheesecake factory

now i know some of the businesses in their model they do not come to smaller areas, but again if they are going to market this as a regional mall including the roanoke area they may just be able to attract these types of businesses. and you have to keep in mind that many shoppers in this area go to richmond, raleigh/durham to do their shopping because of these higher-end stores

being that when i was there, to go to any restaurant on the weekend you'd get saddled with hour + long wait, there can't possibly be too many restaurants...

You could be a habitual womanizer and I think your tennis team management history will always put a blip on the gaydar.

I don't think liking Crate & Barrel makes any of you gay but maybe richer than me - that store is over my head!

if this new mall had a discovery channel store and a history channel store (do those exist?) i'd be in heaven.

any clothing store which charges more than $25 for a pair of jeans or more than $15 for a shirt is over my head - so basically any store in a mall that sells any sort of clothing items. i'm more than content with the clothing I can get at wal-mart, rugged warehouse, and occasionally goodies. which is precisely why I don't really go to malls lol

Yes Shuk, there is a Discovery Channel Store...Smoothie even listed it as a possibility. I wonder if Books-A-Million will decide to locate here.

i meant that comment to be about a history channel store - about the only channel better than the history channel is espn! books a million would be nice, i used to go up to the one in Roanoke; i was more than displeased a while back when i went up to the Lynchburg mall and the one store i wanted to visit at that time, the bookstore, wasn't even there.

Smoothie, I didn't have you as a crate and barrel guy :P The one in Tyson's Corner is pricy and Snooty as well but I have been there a few times. I don't think we have ever bought anything from there though. As far as Short Pump Mall and the Roanoke Malls comparison, I don't think it is even close. BBrother can attest to the awesomeness of Short Pump. I live within walking distance of that mall and even on the hottest and coldest days of the year they do pretty well. Also Short Pump has a comedy club that we go to sometimes as well as the outdoor concerts that BBro mentioned. Lynchburg is going to LOVE this new mall if it is a fraction like Short Pump! Richmond also has another Short Pump type mall called Stoney Point and it is pretty cool as well. The restaurants like Cheesecake, Maggiano's, PF Changs etc are at these malls. BTW I love living in Richmond. Who knew it was this fun? I always thought of it as a high crime inner city type place but it seems they have overcome that perception to some extent with all the development on the West End. They even have the large Northern VA TownHouses that we love but are half the price or even less than the ones just an hour and a half to the north. Richmond is the new Northern VA and Lynchburg is doing well to copy their development patterns. I agree with Smoothie about the infrastructure of the roads. Wards Road needs to be widened before this building begins but I don't think it will happen that way. Shuck, you need to get out of the Hill City a few times man, I think your perspective will change a bit. I do agree that Lynchburg has a lot of food places but as SJ said, they are all the same. I can think of 10 places off the top of my head that Lynchburg is lacking in the food dept. from Chipotle to Cheesecake Factory.

I have been outside the hill City, quite a lot actually, especially since i traveled with the men's bball and men's lacrosse teams at LC. but i'm fine with Lynchburg, sure it isn't a thriving metropolis like NYC, but it's good enough for me. we got an arby's, a chic-fil-a, a little caesar's, and a golden corral, so i'm basically satisfied with the restaurant's around here lol. i only eat out once a month, if that, so restaurants aren't that big of a deal as far as i'm concerned. besides, i'll basically be forced to leave Lynchburg considering my career path in sports information - unless I work in the sports info department at LC or RC (which is only affordable if i'm the head SID) or LU (and I don't want to work at the D1 level unless I have to and I don't really want to work at Liberty to begin with).

i just checked out that list of higher end stores. i guess i'm not preppy enough or rich enough for these places.

I had the same thought before I read your reply. I like C&B also.

I'm really hoping some of these higher-end stores, the ones who normally wouldn't consider putting a location in Lynchburg, will consider breaking their own rules for this place. Cracker Barrel did it with their Wards Road location, so we have a precedent. I'm not sure that would sway the people in Cupertino, but one can hope.

yeah SCAR, i'm a C&B guy. it is just a quality store. a bit pricey, but worth it IMO. i do not think anyone was comparing short pump and valley view. i think the point was made that VV was getting more high end stores, but if crossroads colonnade is marketed to be like short pump with at least some of the stores they have that it will replace VV as the best regional mall, and could keep the shoppers in the burg and possibly away from richmond or raleigh.
