Dude, the alumni lounge in DeMoss is extremely sweet. It even gets a big thumbs up from my kids.

I've never been in there. I noticed it when I was in the JF museum during the viewing this past May. Is it just for hanging out in? Do they look you up on some alumni database, or did they send out a secret handshake on an alumni newsletter I didn't get?

Who cares who it's meant for?

There are dorms meant for girls but I at least know where they're at.

Just head into the front entrance of DeMoss and look right then follow the signs. I believe I first heard about it when it opened from the Alumni newsletter that used to come out quarterly. But when Scar, Smoothie & GMTM were giving the Sly family the grand tour last year we dropped in there for awhile. For out-of-towners it's a cool place to get online and catch your breath for a few minutes with very nice decor.

They change the protocol every so often for security purposes. Once you had to show up with a hard-boiled egg and present it at the Visitor's Center with the phrase, "What can I get for this egg?" Most recently I had to ask them to show me to Kirk Handy's private bathroom. Not sure what it is now.

ATrain, it's also sort of connected to the JF Museum, or you can enter it directly from the second door on the right (with the JFM being the first door).

It looks like a sports bar in here. LU sports paraphanelia hanging every where. Big screen TV currently showing Fox News but last time I was here they were replaying a girl's basketball championship game. Kids play area, free food and four computers for alumni to jump on.

The best part about the alumni lounge is that they loop a Liberty Men's basketball game and I get to hear my own voice and see myself on the big screen. I should donate the poster of my dunk to them since my wife who is so unimpressed with me (like the rest of you I suppose), hasn't let me hang it anywhere in our house. When we get a new place though, I think if I can't find a decent spot for it I may just donate it to them....Stop by and say hello to Dave Campbell. He is the older gentleman that greets you at the front door of the Alumni hall. He grew up with Dr. Falwell and is one of the nicest people in the world and a huge Flames fan as well. Baldspot, sorry I won't be in town this week when you are there. I am actually thinking of driving in for the day on the 4th but if I do, we can go to Neighbors or Depot Grille. Those are 2 of my favorite Lynchburg restaurants. Lynchburg needs a Macaroni Grill or a Carrabas. Carrabas is like Macaroni Grill but it is owned by Outback I believe. All I know is Lynchburg has come a long way. I remember when it was just Shakers and the Crown Sterling.

Yes, the Houston-based Carrabbas chain sold out to the Outback folks not that long ago. And it is indeed a quality Italian restaurant as far as chains go. The Carrabba & Mandola families run a bunch of great restaurants down here in Houston. And you can catch Johnny & Damian on PBS with their show called 'Cucina Amore'. Texan Italianos ... you know I'm down with that.

We're talking Lynchburg, Virginia...not Texas. Believe it or not, there is a world outside the Lonestar State :P

ATrain is catching on quick to this old hag thing. I just found him hanging out in the alumni lounge. Two days ago he didn't know this place existed. I don't think he has found the free food yet. Yesterday I took my family to the Depot Grille and then over to Amazement Square. Both were excellent. The Grille is based in a train depot built in 1912ish. They pulled two train cars along side to house the kitchen. The furniture came from an old church located in PA. Very unique. The Amazement Square is a four story touch museum for kids. Great for a rainy day. Its got a jungle gym type apparatus with ropse, slides etc that spans all four floors. Me and my two year old both had a great time.

I did met Dave Campbell in the alumni lounge on Friday. What a great time having a conversation with him.

They are half way around the old GE plant replacing the sheet metal siding with brick and mortar. It's looking more like the football convocation center. Heading back out to the July 4th festivities and fireworks tonight.
