hey- do you suppose this is a big deal because

:?:

I think I've read that somewhere

We wouldn't have to repeat ourselves if people didn't post things like this.....

don't mess w/ LUconn.

he has strange and mystical powers

I'm interested to see what happens after the concert. That's the real test -- if someone with the "administrative power" attends and sees something he doesn't like, is it ever allowed again?

Yeah me too, I guess ask HoMO he has those powers, ive never seen anything like it. I parked in a blocked off parking lot and LUPD walked up to me and before he even got anything out of his mouth HoMO told him I was with him and to move on hahaha

Postman on Myspace wrote:This hasn't been put on here, but the show has been cancelled. I will be straight up with you guys so you won't be angry at LU just to be angry at LU. When the bands contacted the people they did to get this whole thing approved, this department approved it. The department that approved did not have the power to do this and whgen the people that do have that power found out about this show today they had to put a stop to it because it is against insurance policy for there to be moshing and such.

I know many of you will take this as lies from the University, and hate LU even more, but this is simply not the case.

If you want to point the finger at anybody for this show not happening here on campus look no further then this group for people talking about different things they are going to do in the pit.

If people on here talked about dancing and not so much about the violent side of things then maybe a red flag wouldn't have gone up.

I wanted this show to happen so much....I was so excited when it all came together. I am convinced more then ever that the people that do approve these events aren't against these kind of events, there just has to be a system in place that the University can trust thatwill help things from getting out of control.

I will personally conintue to work on getting some more diverse music on campus. 90.9 is going to be working hard next semester to gain a relationship with Student Activities so we can co-host events and such.

This is not the end...I know it sucks...but please know we are working hard for something similar to this to happen in the future

thanks again for all the support you guys have given us, and please listen to Independent Now on 90.9 tonight at 10

also next week you can catch Ashway in the Schilling Center on Friday night I believe, that may not be the right day. I will let you guys know

thanks again for the support....

ANY rock show at Liberty is an improvement over when I was there. I got busted for Petra. PETRA. 4 reps and a fine for PETRA.

I want a refund.

BTW -- anyone who goes, tell the bands that there's a podcaster who wants to play their stuff --> pewpodcast@gmail.com

Late '80s after Bev Buffington came out with "the list".

Sly, if it won't bring up too many bad memories, some of us newer folk might be interested in knowing the names of some of the bands on that list. Also, was Bev working in the dean of students' office, or why was she "chosen" to compile the list?

if memory serves correctly: Stryper, Rez Band, White Cross

many others, I'm sure- forgetful now.

haha, the list....thats funny....i am so glad liberty has come so far....but i am sure if liberty was still in that mindset I would not have come here to begin with....I was thinking about a bible school at one time, word of life actually, then i read about all the rules and knew I would end up with a bad attitude....

see kids who hate liberty, if you just look into the school a little bit before you come you could avoid taking the rest of us down with you with your attitudes.....

by the way....how was petra ever considered good??

Stryper....."TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL!!!"......I have played that on 90.9 a few times just to laugh

She ran the Student Life office (she ran LU Cheer as well) and every song that was played on the student radio station had to get approval from her and she even gave the songs taings based on her tastes (Icouldn't make this stuff up).

Some of the names on the list:

Rez Band
Petra
Whiteheart
Amy Grant
Daniel Amos
Michael W. Smith
Steve Taylor
and some extremely obscure bands that most everyone assumed Bev had made up herself

As for Petra, some of their songs were actually pretty strong although the production value was in short supply.

As for Medic's comments, I was the guy playing that stuff on Z-100.

Sly, my wife & I just got from a Michael W. Smith concert last night at the new Thomas Road Baptist Church. So you are saying that both he and Amy Grant were off limits for the students to listen to sometime in the 1980s? Nowadays, I think we play both Three Dog Night and Lynard Skynard at athletic events (I'm serious).

Bryson, I'm sorry I missed seeing them. The new TRBC is a big place, and it's really hard finding people in there unless you plan ahead. My wife got us tickets at kind of the last minute, so I don't even think I knew that we were going until Wednesday.

It was very arbitrarily handled by RAs & Supervisors back then. We played selected songs from nearly everyone of those artists on WLBU ... but it was basically just ballads. :boring

Amy Grant was riding the wave of publicity off her big corssover album and Michael W,. Smith had just released the Big Picture in hopes of crossover success of his own.

Essentially the bogus listed was posted in each dorm and whenever the powers that be felt they needed to come down on somebody they used the posting of the list as their grounds. 80% of the campus listened to some or most of the artists I listed while the other 20% had on K92, Q99, Z100 or WYYD.

Thankfully the school has gotten past being such harsh music critics. But keep in mind it had more to do with keeping donors and pastors happy during the controversial formative years of CCM than it had to do with principles.

in 88 or 89 Stryper played Roanoke and we were all strictly forbidden to go, with threat of serious reps for those nailed offending.

Needless to say, quite a few brave souls went- and Michael Sweet allegedly opened by welcoming all the Libert Students to the show

Actually in '87 Stryper played EC Glass and Michael opened by thanking Jerry for bringing all of his fans to the same city. I saw them down in Charlotte in '86 or '87 with Hurricane opening up for them. Good times.
