I am not an avid proponent of gentleman's clubs, nor do I attend them on a regular basis (bachelor parties and 21st birthdays don't count), but I like how some people cry that with strip clubs comes organized crime, shootings, death, gambling, polio, etc.

It doesn't. I am not advocating for one in Lynchburg, but I have one 5 minutes down the road from me at home and there is rarely ever an incident. So if the sheltered people of the Burg want a good reason not to have one, make sure it's factual. In this town with such a religious school, I wouldn't favor it very much though.

This is directed towards alot of the people who I've talked too from the Burg that think strip clubs will bring another dark age, unless you are Pacman Jones, and it brings prison sentences.

I'd ask you to back that up with something, but I don't want this thread to get any more off topic than it already is.

So, in light of that, has anyone checked out the rants n' raves today? "Falwell for President" is fun.

Isn't the burden of proof on those who claim that strip clubs are accompanied by organized crime, shootings, death, gambling, polio, etc?

If you think he's wrong, I'd ask you to back it up with something, but like you, I don't want this thread to get any more off topic than it already is.

Arrogance! It's pure and simple arrogance on his part.

Look, it may be his property... but we're not talking about a "monogram" (that's what the alumni newsletter calls it) on his property welcoming to LU. This thing is a monogram on Lynchburg, period. The thing has got to be at least 200ft in diameter you see it from EVERYWHERE. The guys on the space station can probably read it! As far as I am concerned, he just officially branded Lynchburg as "Jerry's town." That's arrogance.

State College PA is noting with out Penn State University. Morgantown, WV is pretty-much nothing without WVU. However, Lynchburg IS NOT Liberty University and Jerry Falwell. The city was here 200 years before he came along and it would be here long after if LU finally folds. Maybe not quite as populous, but we would still be here and doing very well.

I am proud to have gone to Liberty when it was still set apart. Back when only true Christians studied, taught, and worked there. Now it's just a liberal college. If anyone reading this doubts that it has changed that much, just go back for homecoming and get see the real flavor of the university like I did. It looks and sounds like any other campus. My Bible still says "be not conformed..."

i love how people think this town would be anything without liberty. If your a complete hick that may be true. Lynchburg residents need to face the fact that Lynchburg is Liberty, and if ANYTHING, Liberty should be ashamed of Lynchburg FAR before Lynchburg is ashamed of Liberty

I was speaking to a lady that runs a local apartment complex and she was talking about how over the years she's never had to kick out a LU student (surprised me) but LC no longer lives there (still are allowed) b/c they've had so many problems with them and had to evict several.

Nothing worse than this Jerry Fallweeel bringin in these model citizens to this town....dang it!

I heard a song the other day (I'm not a country fan so some of you may have heard this song 1,000 times) and it sounded like the theme song for Lynchburgers who wish LU wasn't here..... the song: "Country Boy Can Survive"

yeah well nothing compares to U2 actually calling him out! I think Bono later apologized for it.
Bullet the Blue Sky

Introduced by Jimi Hendrix' treatment of The Star Spangled Banner
See The Joshua Tree for studio version lyrics
This live performance (20th December 1987) adds these words at the end:

So I'm back in my hotel room
With John Coltrane and A Love Supreme
In the next room I hear some woman scream out
That her lover's turning off, turning on the television
And I can't tell the difference between ABC News, Hill Street Blues
And a preacher on the old time gospel hour
Stealing money from the sick and the old
Well the God I believe in isn't short of cash, mister!

I feel a long way from the hills of San Salvador
Where the sky is ripped open
And the rain pours through a gaping wound
Pelting the women and children
Pelting the women and children
Who run - who run into the arms of America

He's been called out by U2, Pearl Jam and a number of others. Yet, I don't think any of them have probably ever met the man or had a conversation with him. Everything they know about him is based on what they've read in the media, which is true for most of the locals as well. It's easy to demonize someone you don't ever interact with.

Now think about this long and hard. crime and violence is every where. I was born and raised in Lynchburg and there hasn't been one steady club/ bar in this small city that has a clean record. there may be 2 places that i can think of that have been there for 30 plus years. No matter what the make up of night life in Lynchburg or any surround city, there is a threat. If you fear the scene stay home!!! if things are that serious and getting out of hand, 911 is just a phone call away. Any idiot in the strip club OR any nightclub/ bar business knows that you need lots of security. Not only for the club, but for the dancers and patrons. Who ever wrote the negative feed back must be: 1. grew up very sheltered, 2: Is an up tight female 3. has kids, 0r 4. kisses Jerry Falwels ***... COME ON LYNCHBURG IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS. I've seen more [female body part] and *** on ABC... If I'd had a few hundred Thousand I'd open a club now.

Keep in mind: Lynchburg already has numerous escorts services...Its only a matter or time
before it takes center stage

That's pure gold.

Edited for obvious reasons.

I don't want to tell him. I'd rather just let him try to save up his beer money to open a strip club.

So how long until the Vines hosts a RED campaign U2 concert? Mend some fences Bono & Falwell...LU needs some "Where The Streets Have No Name" and the "Saints Are Coming" up on the mountain. (Hey, P.Rob appeared in the ONE commercial campaign and in tandem with Clooney to promote it.)

I don't think that this debate is entirely about the LU logo. The logo is what took it over the top and now alot of people are frustrated. It just seems like the law doesn't apply to some people (i.e. Jerry).
He may intend to do good things for the city but I also believe he needs to value the citizens input on those decisions (or at least hear them). If he is so "great" for the city then he would care how the citizens feel - and in my opinion he doesn't!

I am sure that there has been more than one person who wants to paint a huge "X" across the logo but they are just thoughts and people voicing their opinions and frustrations and to the one who posted that it was illegal to do that do you not think we don't know that? DUH! Oh but it is O.K. for Jerry to break laws. Jerry needs to stay out of politics and stop pushing his opinions and values on everyone in this city because if I wanted to know what they are I know where LU is located along with TRBC.

What ever happened with Carl Hutcherson and Jerry, what about the site where TRBC is located now- wasn't there a little monkey business going on with that? Why does Jerry admit that he supports a politician who admits to having an affair and using drugs? He also states that gays will not be tolerated in his University and will be permantly kicked out- well go visit the hospital and see the LU nursing students and listen real close. The reason is because they are paying him to go to school- money money money!

If Jerry was so great and felt that the Lord would protect him while he is doing the Lords work then why does he have a cement wall around his house? Is he afraid of something? It does appear that the LU logo says this city belongs to LU. Have you ever thought that is exactly what Jerry and his band of hypocrites who follow him wanted it to say? I haven't noticed not one benefit that the LU logo has contributed to the city, however I have noticed several car accidents because people are wondering why the logo is so big as they are blinded by it driving down the road. Don't you think that a portion of the money could have been put to better use here in the city and still had a smaller logo. That isn't Jerry's way because he is all about himself along with the rest of his hypocrites.

All the terriosts need now is a plane and a copy of Beyonce's song "To the left" and they will be dead on target for the nuclear plant.
