if you came out you wouldnt be kicked off campus. and fun fact, because this is a private institution, and private property, the authorities have the power to do whatever the hell they want.

sorry that was way to dick to say, ive just had a stressful day and that kid is annoying because no matter what i say he keeps saying Gay people are being discriminated and im seriously considering running a debate argument that we have called the victimization Kritik which says the only reason these people are victims is because you have labeled them victims, and by you labeling them victims the problem will never be solved and everyone will lose their rights.

ummmm. ok.

but it doesn't change the fact that many people in that situation are persecuted unmercifully and that's unacceptable, no matter HOW you feel about homosexuality.

I happen to believe that we were commanded to be caring toward everyone. JMHO

the only exception is during sporting competition- kill'em

qkslvrsrfrboy is correct...first it is a private institution so they can make up and enforce just about any rule, and second-if someone comes out, they can either enter counseling if involved in a relationship to avoid being kicked out, or if not involved the university will encourage counseling but will not expel them if they decide not to go b/c technically they are not breaking the "sexual immorality" rule.

Some athletes/teams, however, do have a different set of rules when it comes to the Liberty Way in general-or are given second and third and fourth chances before being dismissed...but I do not know of any that are of homosexual orientation OR "struggling with same-sex attraction."

I don't agree with persecution of any kind, thats all.

unless it involves Winthrop basketball or Coastal football.

It may not be an "official" discrimination, but if someone thinks that LU doesn't discriminate again homosexuals, they're just ignorant to the fact.

discriminate how? as in, not allow it? of course that's discriminatory. And rightfully so.

i am compassionate towards them, you can reread what ive written before, i dont care if someones gay, its not my place to tell them its wrong or if its natural or a choice, because i dont know. Its between them and God and i have my own sins to worry about. As far as LU discriminating against homosexuality, i think it is more a case of so many students coming from small towns with baptist churches who have never encountered a homosexual before that do the discriminating, and not so much on the part of LU. But one could also argue that they discriminate against calvinists, or mormons. And then with the fact that LU Law school doesnt accept LU students if they arent honor students could be seen as discrimination towards LU students. And what ive been debating with this kid isnt even about discrimination anyways, its just about what soulforces website says which is that students have no freedom and Jerry is the devil, they dont really mention discrimination

Well, you can view my RANT posts on the "spin". You can NOT be a homosexual (practicing) and stay on campus. You CAN engage in any other type of sexual immorality and be ok. Granted LU is a private institution and can set their own agenda. I have not one problem with that. What I DO have a problem with is when they throw in "If they go to counseling they will be allowed ot remain". Seriously, like that would happen. If they don't want homosexuals as students, fine, not aproblem. But going through this pius ritual to "save face" is what annoys me.
ON THE OTHER HAND if you ARE a practicing homosexual and you still enroll at LU you should abide by the rules. I also get annoyed by those who would enroll to "make a point" Get freakin over it. Live your life, get a degree and be a success THAT is the most powerful argument. Why do we need to go to LU to make a point? I am all for passive agressive: If you ignore them, maybe they will go away!!! :D

I don't think that's entirely true. Every girl I knew who got pregnant while at LU was sent home as soon as she was found out, without exception. I also know several people who were kicked out just for appearing to have committed sexual immorality by staying overnight with the opposite sex. Even if other people were there and they adamantly denied that there was any such activity, they were kicked out. (In one such case, the only reason the girl stayed overnight with her bf and his roommate was because LU wouldn't let her (an RA) move into the dorm two days early. She was kicked out for sleeping on her boyfriend's couch. True story.)

I think there may be a perception that people get away with it, but in my experience, if the Deans are aware of it, you're gone. I'm not saying that I believe some folks have not been given exceptions, but I've never experienced that.

that's absolutely insane.

I can't believe, in this day and age, that someone actually bothered to take the time to investigate this "offense", process the paperwork (costing time and money for LU staff) and carry out that massive overreaction. :x

Sounds like one phone call of explanation on the matter would have eliminated the problem, now you may well have created another person with a healthy distaste for LU and everything it stands for.

Ridiculous.

Meanwhile, we have child molesters handing out cereal in the dining hall.

I love how LU officials think that anytime a guy and a girl get together that they're wanting to have sex. There is a thing called friendship. There's no difference in a guy staying the night and sleeping on the couch and a girl staying the night and sleeping on the couch. I'm embarassed by my school when I heard stories like that.

It must be a generational thing- I hope "they" grow out of it. (old timers)

still irritated by that. I hoped incidents like that had died out in the 80s

It's definitely a generation thing. Our generation doesn't see the difference in guys and girls when it comes to friends and staying the night. Some of the rules are still set in 1971.

They absolutely did. She fled Lynchburg as soon as she could and were it not for us being friends with her and her husband (who was the bf at the time), I doubt they ever would have come back. In fact, because of her getting kicked out of LU, she didn't have any place to go so they had to no choice but to elope so she could move in.

I mean, isn't that how every girl dreams her wedding plans will go? That wouldn't make any girl bitter about LU at all, right?

pathetic.

I'm glad you guys kept contact, though.

I'll stop ranting now, don't want to turn this into another Liberty Way thread.

I can agree that the rules are out of date, however in this day and age there is also a new form of relationship that there wasnt much of 30 years ago and that is the friends with benefits, and from the schools point of view it would be too hard to tell which case was just a friend sleeping on the couch and what cases are just saying that. I hate the fact that I probably sound like im 60 or something, i just know to many people who have made dumb decisions.

What?? It only costs $500 bucks to spent the night with a person of the opposite sex?? That is a GREAT deal. I am suprised more people don't take advantage of that. I mean we were in Boston a few weeks ago and it was MUCH more than that! And seriously, isn't it WORTH the extra $250 ?? I mean that is a lot of money just to go INTO the room. YOu would think they could charge that by the hour or something. And remember the tourney is soon coming to Ashville where the hotel behind the civic center has nightly AND hourly rates
