We have a choir up in our primary English service at our main campus every other week. It plays exceptionally well to the 50+ crowd. Choirs may be a dying breed, but they still have legs in most areas even if it is just to back up the worship team.

Yea seriously... some may prefer a different style but good Lord, is that really necessary?

Sorry. I wasn't referencing TRBC specifically. I meant smaller churches

Getting back to the original point of this thread, 90.9 may open up even wider in terms of it's genre. Yesterday in the C-Lab some marketing majors were going around asking people to take surveys about the station and based on the questions they may be looking to bring in some non Christian content and nail down what genres of Christian music they should play more of. And in other news I will probably have a twice a week sports talk show next semester when I find out days and times I'll probably post on here.

I simply mean that it is a safe bet that a day will come when TRBC does NOT have a choir. We may not be alive, but that day will likely come.

They already play some non-Christian music, have for years.
Sometimes I have a hard time letting my kids listen to 90.9 on our drive to school in the morning. I don't want them thinking that that's intelligent conversation. Though that's hard to find these days.

For years? I mean I know I graduated 7 years ago but when I was there running the music it was without a doubt exclusively Christian artists. Same could be said of when my brother took over after I graduated.

Yep. Just as an example, during 2004 they would play an Embrace song all the time (Ashes). They are definitely not a Christian band. They played Chevelle, who were on a Christian-friendly label, but not a Christian band. I don't want to get into the whole "Christian band/Christian music" debate, but those are just a couple examples.

Ahh. I had to answer many emails with similar complaints. I didn't get it now and still don't. one can create art as a Christian without writing praise music. Many Christian artists that are embraced by the Christian church have musicians that tour with them that aren't Christians. I guess I should of taken them off the Playlist too. Of course that would've left us with the DJ BJ 24 hour talk show because we would not have any artists to play.

Speaking of music like that, Dustin Kensrue's new album is awesome.

A very good friend of mine used to host multiple shows at the station, and he told me there were people involved at the station who were also involved with labels/promotions/etc who would put music in the playlists that technically shouldn't be there.

Chevelle is one of my all-time favorite bands, but from all the interviews I've read, they're marginally Catholic at best. Hearing 'Ashes' on 90.9 led me to appreciate a lot of songs by Embrace, but the members of Embrace are not Christians. It's not that they're "Christians in a band playing secular music", these are bands of non-Christians. I get that there are artists like Eisley, Mae, Andrew Belle, etc, but I'm talking about the blatant non-Christians. 90.9's tagline is they play artists who "glorify God". Okay, then stick to that. As long as an artist "glorifies God", then I'm sure I can trust their music. But don't play music from non-Christians. Know who you're putting on the air. That's all I'm saying.

I agree to the tagline aspect and get what you're saying. I know when I ran the music dept I made it a point to play artists who were Christians. I can't speak for your friend who worked there prior to myself or for how things are currently. I can't even remember the last time I listened.

I listened when I was in town for homecoming but really I only tuned in for the Get Up and Go Show on my way to a substitute teaching job.

Now I have to comment on the area that was particularly in my wheelhouse, and that is the sports department. I know that with LFSN that changes things to a degree, but really I was pretty disappointed with the on air talent outside of Jamie and Nick (and LibertyRadioPxP of course)

LFSN is world class compared to radio stations in Lynchburg. I have no complaints at all about LFSN, but I can find something wrong with every radio station in the city.

BUMP

90.9 is still called "The Light" but the call letters have changed it's WQLU now, because that totally rolls of the tongue. A new music director has also made some changes to the song library and from the small sample size I heard, the selection has become much more diverse and less obscure.

And on a more personal note, after a successful first show on Saturday, I believe I'll be back on the Average Joe's Sports Show this Saturday.
