is my memory correct that the plan was for LU to build the CC and then turn it over to the city to run?

As for Alcohol sales I would imagine Lynchburg would want it at secular events, another $ maker. Obviously Liberty games wouldn't have any.Oh, no doubt the college games wouldn't have alcohol. I was just wondering if Liberty would stipulate that it be banned completely.

All the welfare queens and unemployment 99'ers just woke up. The rest of us who love Liberty are hard at work, doing our jobs. Bless they heart, the lazy layabouts have nothing else to do but make asinine statements on facebook.

I don't really understand that. Most malls are subdivided into a number of parcels. The major stores such as Sears often wanted to own their sites but agreed to be part of the mall and operated under a joint agreement that governs how that works as to sharing expenses, hours, etc. Sears probably agreed to be there XX years and that time has expired so they can close or sell to whomever. I am surprised the mall ownership would not step-up and buy that site so they can control all of the mall and what goes there. It would be better for them if another large retailer would go into that space but I guess the owners had other plans.
This kinda sucks though. I have a good amount of craftsman hand tools and I could just walk in there and exchange them if they ever broke. Also, most of Lynchurg's appliances come from there. I thought they were expanding their auto center. I know they were just hiring a bunch for it. A strange event indeed.

This is the reason Lynchburg does not like Liberty. If they buy a piece of real estate, they slap the Liberty University name of it, or have provisions. In this case, a civic center would be excellent choice BUT if it is built certain shows or concerts will be prohibited probably due to cussing or "adult content". So LU is gunna help to build a civic center but the city must adhere to THEIR codes. Majority of people in the city don't like LU bc they want to tell Lynchburg what is acceptable in THEIR eyes. That is why the relationship sucks. Liberty has CREATED A LOT that the city has benefited from and Lynchburg appreciates it. VCU is building in Richmond at an unprecedented rate and the Siegel Center on campus caters to ALL.

Um, no that's not what happened. \

Sears is doing the same thing that IHOP/Applebees did a few years ago- divesting themselves of property in an effort to raise 700 million. This was a separate move that Sears Holdings began early this year and it seems that each store could be a case by case situation. One thing that is interesting is that Sears Commercial sales office in Lynchburg is one of the busiest and covers an area much larger than the Lynchburg region. including Roanoke and Charlottesville. They sell more appliances than any other retailer in Lynchburg, so I wonder what the future will be with Sears in the area.
