is liberty going to post this on the splash/website? find it kind of ridiculous they don't talk about being ranked (usnews and forbes), esp. to prospective students, but are surely to brag about having a top 20 dining service on college prowler

If they could find an angle, you better believe they'd brag about it. Being the 65th best regional university in the south isn't really something to brag about though.

Adam's right. If there was something that could be used to market the university as positively as possible, somebody would be blowing up my boss' email about it and I'd be hearing it from them too.

Also, that 24.6% acceptance rate seems like it had to have been doctored somehow. Anyone know if this is actually legit?

Jerry Jr. has commented on this many times. What Liberty does (or did) is the following -


1. Take all applications into a big pot
2. Sort out the ones that meet some sort of standard (not sure what it is)
3. Accept a certain percentage out of those that meet the standards


That is why our acceptance rate was so high. We didn't want to play the US News and World Report game of "selectivity" which plays heavily into their rankings.

Herein lies the probable cause....

Instead of calculating our acceptance rate out of the qualified applicants, we probably took it out of the big pot, so to speak.

So now the order looks like -

1. Take all applications into a big pot
2. Accept the best 6,000 or so, knowing that 4,200 will come (something like that)
3. Calculate acceptance of 6,000 from 25,000 = 24% (something like that)

I believe in the past LU included the online students in their data. Now it is just the full-time in Lynchburg students. That helped a lot.
