Seems like a great idea. With all the TV and live productions already being done at LU having people working in film as the medium will bring another dimension and attract a new niche of students to LU.

as a guy who is pursuing film and photography at a different school this could be either REALLY good for Liberty, or a complete and utter failure.

The reason I mention a failure is because Liberty will have to compete with in state VCU. VCU has one of the top Film programs in the country. Plus the cost (even out of state tuition) is very reasonable.

I think with the right people that this thing can take off... Just as long as people step up and profs don't encourage people to make the cheesy Christian films you can buy at the Christian bookstore

Frankly I believe we are primarily competing with Regent & Biola for the most part right out of the gates. But I see your point.

I think the way that he was describing it, these kids wont be just making "cheesy Christian films"...I think when Mr Gordon talked about what he wants to see coming out of the school is Christians who are making major motion pictures that appeal to all audiences, not just Christians

As long as they can teach them to produce movies much better than "Left Behind," was, we'll be ok

Bob Jones University surprises me sometimes as they have had somewhat of a good reputation in the Christian Community for Unusual Films and their support of the arts.

Regarding the subject at hand, it's a balance between producing explicitly Christian films (which often suck or are scarier than Friday the 13th, albeilt sometimes unintentionally) or worldly films that are really awesome. It would be nice to have elements of both ala Braveheart, Gran Torino...both rated R. Haha.

Students are creative. I hope the faculty of this institute will let the students run with this craft instead of clamping down on their creativity. Some professors have a way of doing that. :dontgetit

I'm wondering how much of an influence our commencement speaker was in the decision to start the film school.

I haven't seen any direct correlation between Wallace or recent convo speaker Phil Cooke (who consults for TRBC) with the film school. But you would think that every angle would be worked.
