They glossed over it because nobody cares who's speaking at the Baccalaureate dinner.

1) its not a dinner...and 2)...if you read the release a little more carefully you see that Dr Patterson is also going to be speaking at commencement in addition to Glen Beck

I guess it just comes down to what you view as successful…obviously our definitions would be different.

Do we really have to give everyone a doctorate? Pretty soon the entire talk radio world is gonna be running around with honorary LU doctorates.

I thought Glenn Beck did a great job yesterday. Liked Ben Stein OK last year, but it seemed like what he said could've been said anywhere as a film promo. Beck really seemed to speak from the heart. I'm sure there will be lots of different opinions, just thought I'd throw mine out.

+1

And I've never seen someone so emotionally moved over getting an honorary doctorate. You could tell that he really values education, and that he was definitely humbled by his honorary degree. Best speaker that I've heard in years, if not decades.

He started off saying (Cider's paraphrase), "Having me here to speak does mean that Liberty endorses my faith; however, it does mean that that I endorse your [Liberty University's] faith."

That opening statement caught my attention, because it showed that he was really sensitive to his audience.

I thought it was really good. Maybe I wasnt paying close enough attention but I didnt hear anything Biblically that I disagreed with. Obviously this wasnt Theology 101 but rather a speech however that's why it was good in my opinion. Stick with what we agree with and as Doc used to say, we can fight over the details in Heaven.

Did you mean to leave out the not? in does not mean that Liberty endorses my faith.

I second 09's question...I know there was a not in there too...but he really was very sensitive to the audience he was speaking to...he also seemed genuinely touched when he received the honorary doctorate. I think he probably is top 5 of my favorite speakers at graduation, and I wouldnt be surprised if he was on the top 10 speakers ever for LU commencement (I was thinking how cool itd be for the school to have the 10 best commencement speakers of the first 50 years of LU when that comes around.)

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good his speech was. He gained a lot of points in my book. I guess we gotta remember a lot of the things he says on radio/TV are for entertainment, shock value, and to keep the pot stirred. He showed to me in his speech that he is really intelligent and genuinely appreciates this country and what its history stands for. His emotional response to the degree and the song at the end also told me a lot more about him as a person.

Overall, well done, Mr. Beck.

It's just a typo, clearly he said not. I thought it was very well done and was the best of the 3 or 4 graduations that I have attended. Emotion is something that is very hard to be faked, especially when your discussing an issue that is dear to your heart. Sure there are those who can summons and restrain it when they want, they are called actors. For the rest of us you can usually tell a sincere heart and I think LU made a big impact on him. I think he like most others that are not quite sure what Liberty is all about think that they are going to bashed or pelted. When they get here they find the complete opposite most of the time. I have a feeling he left with a very good impression of Liberty and Christianity in general. EIther way, his speech was very good and from what I could tell biblically true, tho I did not keep notes.

Oops! (just added the NOT).

Does anyone know if Beck's address is streamed anywhere so those who missed it can watch it online? (Mrs. Cider wants to see it).
