What's the reason for this one? Is it still the comment issue that we've been working on for a while? I admit I didn't read the comments this morning but as of last night I didn't see any problems so something may have happened overnight.

I don't know why its blocked, but if history repeats itself it won't last too long bc normally the newspaper backs down and a compromise is reached quickly.

There are some very important events taking place in near future...including tonight and allowing comments from those who will continue to hate LU no matter what sway opinions from those that are on the fence could be a legit concern.

id love to know how many unique users actually access the comments section of the N&A for that specific story.....I would be willing to be the number is quite low ( less than 250 ). Not to mention at this point, people have made up there mind on LU for better or worse who live in the community and comments on this one article are going to push them over the fence? Come on are you serious?

Does anybody cringe anytime there's an "LU defender" posting on the N&A articles? Often times they're just as stupid and do as much damage as the other yokels.

From the local fishwrap:
City says no on poll relocation
By Alicia Petska
Lynchburg City Council has announced that it will not relocate the Heritage Elementary School polling place. Council is still proceeding with a public hearing on the matter already scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Attendance at that hearing is expected to be high.

Although it was not on the agenda, Mayor Joan Foster introduced the polling place issue at the start of City Council’s 5 p.m. work session today. She noted that the electoral board had been unable to agree on a recommendation and Liberty University, which made the original request for a move, has since withdrawn that request due to objections over the proposed alternative, Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene on Wards Ferry Road.

I'm kinda wondering who thought that was a good idea. The school has enough trouble with its image locally, that doesn't help.

Careful there, HMO, if you're referring to the guy in the front row, he's an English major, a published poet, and an Air Force veteran.

Cider, is the guy you're talking about the one in the middle? If it is, he can add "Conan O'Brien look-alike" to his already impressive resume.

Ollflame, yea, I had him in class last semester. By the way, there's a nice article about the meeting last night on the LU website: http://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?PID=18495&MID=16179
During Liberty University’s convocation on Monday, Feb. 22, Matthew Mihelic, president of the Student Government Association (SGA), invited students to join him at the Lynchburg City Council meeting on Feb. 23 to voice concerns at a public hearing about the possibility of moving the Ward III polling place, where students have turned out by the thousands to vote in previous elections...

“The first thing that I need from you is that I need you to come with me,” Mihelic said at Monday’s convocation. “If there are any of you that can make it, I need you to come … So we need to go there with the love of Christ and we need to show them that we care — let’s tell America that we care.”

Students responded and boarded buses to ride to City Hall for Tuesday’s meeting. Before the buses left, Mihelic paced in and out of a crowd that grew to about 200 students. Mihelic called them in for prayer, and then said, “You don’t want to be timid, but you don’t want to be overly political either. You want to go there in a spirit of love, just like we have in the past.”
