The Office of Student Housing has received your request regarding housing for the Fall 2009 Semester.

If you have been trying to select housing, you have noticed there is no housing available to select. This is completely correct - housing has filled up this year at an unprecedented pace and Main Campus, Campus East, and the Lynchburg Inn are full.

Given these circumstances, we need to be aware of your intentions for the fall semester.

1. If you intend to live off campus, please complete an Off-Campus Application through ASIST if you have not already done so. This will allow you to confirm your intentions with us so that we can update your account and allow the housing fee to be removed from your Financial Check-in. (If you would like to live off campus, but you do not meet the qualifications, please email the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Mark Hine at vpstudentaffairs@liberty.edu .)

2. If living off campus is NOT an option for you, please click on the following link and fill out the indicated form to place yourself onto the Housing Wait List. The form may be found at http://www.liberty.edu/index.cfm?pid=12951&sid=79.

The Office of Student Housing is continuing to assign students to housing as rooms become available. Assignments will be made on a first come, first serve basis, according to completion date of Financial Check In. Our office will make every effort to accommodate each student.

However, please know that we cannot guarantee an assignment. It is likely that we may not be able to fulfill some requests from our wait list, and we recommend that you look into off campus accommodations as well.

If you have any questions, please contact our office.

Regards,

Office of Student Housing

Kids like me will most likely now be turned away even though we have completed financial check-in and had every intention of coming back. :frustrated
Even if i get approved for living off campus I have no car nor the funds to purchase one, nor anyway to find a roommate anywhere.
I say we torch the whole place and rebuild it Nero style.

I don't think that is the way to go...bad move...but not surprising I suppose

but SJ is right...once some of the older campus east students get wind of this they will be looking to get the heck out of there, so it might not turn into such a huge problem[

I don't know about that, Nero blamed the Christians for the fire and tortured / killed them as a result.

I am confident that LU would not just tell those students they have to deal with it. I am sure there will be incentives of some sort incentives to encourage them to do it. They do not need everyone in order to meet the needs. Maybe around 2/3 or so.

And there are plenty of apartments within walking distance of the school. Living on campus is awesome, but if you can hang in there for a semester, things will probably work out for you.
Very good point.

a ton of students leave the first week or never show up, and rooms open up. also, more people will move off campus before school starts. all of this will work out, and hopefully no one will be 3 to a room on east because we will never hear the end of the complaints from that

The last post is on the money. People shift and leave in the first few weeks. Spots will open up. Also with prices way down for apartments in town it might be a good time for LU to buy more units if they have confidence in the future. If Randolph does not start getting more students soon, there might be an entire campus for sale soon. (kidding sortof)

Totally incorrect. It's a myth that has been going around for years and is completely wrong.

As someone who worked for housing for 3 years, they will start a rash of allowing anyone who is 20 to move off campus. They'll keep lowering that until they are able to fill their housing.

I think some of the new developments are being made too expensive, which is why they are struggling to fill their vacancies. They need to build them to suit who is going to be in there, which is mainly poor college students. Students would rather pay 650 a month for a 2 bedroom and have cheaper appliances and no lazy river then 750-850 for nicer amenities.

If the local apartments and townhouses would become more student friendly then many more kids would be able to move off campus, and they could become more profitable. right now it is borderline on whether it is cheaper for many kids because they pay so much in rent, so they (or their parents) opt for them to just stay on campus.

No, your statement is totally incorrect. Have you lived in an east campus dorm? I lived in E21, E23, and E24. The C room is the smallest, the B room is the largest. The C bathroom could fit into the B bathroom twice. I suggest you go into one of those dorms if you really thing that it is a myth.

Im with rueful on this one...I spent 4 years on East Campus and have lived in an A room, a B room and a C room and I will certainly concur that B rooms are the biggest in a given suite. When I lived in a B room we had enough room to fit a full bookshelf for my roommate in there (and he was in seminary at the time) and we had plenty of room for he to have a loft kit installed andI could probably have put a full bookshelf in too (and maybe have room to put in a refrigerator)

I have also lived in an A, B, and C room on East, and C is by far the smallest. B is the biggest and the best, in my opinion.

I think he just quoted the wrong person because what he said has nothing to do with what he quoted.

I lived in the circle dorms with two other roomies. If those were the living conditions in the Fuhrer-Bunker, Hitler would have killed himself six months earlier.

They are all the same size. They seem smaller because of the way they're laid out but there is NO difference in size.

Maybe we are splitting hairs here either way there is one room and one room only of the 3 that will work b/c there is more space. Dont care why or how but only B will work.

In the Fall of '97 I lived in Dorm 7-1 in the room between the RD apartment and the bathroom. I had three roommates. Three.

That same semester the floor drains in the bathroom backed up and overflowed. There is (or at least there was) a closet for the hot water heater between the bathroom and our room. Doors on both sides. Gaps under the doors. I woke up one morning and swung my feet out of bed into about 4 inches of standing bathroom drain water.

Good times.
