All of the guys listed at #2 were all around when Doc was still here. I was just using Doc as #1.

I think our criteria for determining #2 was 'whose church was the largest / most influential in the Lynchburg area, after of course, Jerry at TRBC?'

Towns (and I'd argue Caner, too) by all rights, would be up there... but I think we were using 'preacher' and 'church' interchangeably.

So what's the deal with Tree of Life?

Although I don't go there, Woody Torrence has built something pretty special in Blue Ridge Community.

And though there's technically no membership, campus church could probably qualify as another megachurch in the area, which would put Caner's name in the mix.

I didn't consider Blue Ridge cause they're technically in Forest. They're doing very well though.

Tree of Life is pentecostal. That's why people on here think they're weird.

woah woah waoh, you're confining this to the city limits? Because Brentwood is definitely in Rustburg.

No, I'm not doing city limits. I was just going on what I think when I think Lynchburg. I think Forest when I think Blue Ridge. Brentwood actually has a Lynchburg address though.

What style and doctrinal beliefs does Brentwood have. I have heard it mentioned a lot, but no nothing really about it.

Blue Ridge is a Lynchburg city church that had to move out in order to build. I used to attend Sunday nights when they met in an elementary school cafeteria (Linkhorn?).

I didn't know that about Blue Ridge. I know a few people that go there and they all like it.

Ive been to both Blue Ridge and Brentwood. their both really nice doctrinally sound contemporary churches.

Brentwood is a lot like campus church... they even have the fog machine and fancy lights...

Blue Ridge has "deeper" preaching than Brentwood + Campus Church. i like that a lot.

I've heard a lot of people say that Brentwood's preaching isn't deep enough.

I've never heard someone who is connected and in a small group at Brentwood say that Brentwood's preaching isn't deep enough.

Blue ridge definitaly has my vote for top church in Lynchburg. I went to Brentwood for 3 months last winter and realized I didnt need to take my bible. He still taught the truth and it was great and all it just wasnt deep enough. Blue Ridge seems like its one of the best kept secrets in lynchburg, because its a very large church yet no one has heard of it.

Once again: I've heard a lot of people who weren't connected say it wasn't deep enough but I've never heard someone who was active in the other stuff say that.

I think that's his point. The PREACHING wasn't deep enough. Small groups are only as deep as you make them, but the preaching, the Sunday tradition, wasn't deep enough for him. Just because you like the church and get a lot out of being connected doesn't mean that someone showing up to hear the preacher gets what they need from it.
