I love at Intramurial softball, theres always the one dbag who thinks hes hot stuff and has to wear like a full on jersey to the game, like the pants tucked into the socks, the 3/4 shirt tucked in, the hat, the shades, and the eyeblack. its awesome to see him go up and strike out in slow pitch
I hope HMO doesn't take this post personal.........
haha nice...it would have been really personal if he said "There's always a 24 year old playing intramural's who cant give it up"

Someone said "Summer" and "Softball." Ahhhh. The good times in life. Only a couple of months away. 8)

I'd play, but I have a Sabathia-type contract as a pitcher on my church league team. You couldn't afford me.

If I was in town, I'd come ump it, haha! HMO knows, I got skills behind the plate!

I umped adult leagues for 7 years, 2 in L'burg. HMO, you're not kidding about the dearth of "C" teams. There's not a lot of high level talent in L'burg anymore.

Seriously, I'd rather get paid to be at the park than have to pay to play. Just my opinion. You start out making $25/game in L'burg, doing three games/night, maybe 2-3 nights/week. Not bad pocket change.

the problem we have locally is that its all asa here. we however are surrounded by usssa leagues in IA and the chicago area. and a c usssa league is entirely different than a c asa league and usually it correlates to usssa c actually being asa b. which makes for tough for tournaments...

That's the good thing about living in the country for me...there is an outlaw tourny every weekend....I just got the Orginal Freak limited edition in for the Utrip and outlaw tournys.

This is prob the earliest I've felt really good out there...normally it takes some time but yesterday I had 3 bombs so that was good (ASA)

Exactly! My league in WV had 100+ teams, and a few in the uppermost diviison were legit USSA "B" teams. Objectively, in my 2 years umping in L'burg, I've yet to see a team that could compete w/ the top-tier teams I was used to.

We routinely had weekend semi-pro softball players from Pittsburgh come down to Morgantown (less than 1.5-hour drive) to play weeknights in our league. What they could do with a softball, hitting and fielding, was unreal at times. And VERY different from baseball stars playing softball.

Yeh there arent really most travel teams take a few players off each super 6 squad....generally the best players. Or some guys team up with teams out of Richmond and Roanoke

There aren't enough serious players in their mid-20's getting into the sport, at least in central VA. A balance of 20-somethings and players in their 30's/40's is optimal. When the core of elite talent is pushing 50, there's a drop-off. That's what I saw in L'burg.

i play in 1 outlaw tourney each year....and for that i have a batch1 original synergy. its got very little decals left on it and the the fibers around the endcap are exposed... it has a 3" crack on one side of the bat (has had that for about 100 swings) i got it off of egay for like 70 bucks...

and this thing is ultraesque. the only cuts it sees is gametime cuts...

Slow pitch softball. Anyone can play, and boring.

Fast pitch people. Find a fast pitch league. Then you actually feel like you accomplished something on the rare times you hit one out. And you can steal. And hit and run. And bunt. Move runners over. People strike out, and you can't foul out. It's a real game.

Bought my $30 Easton Cyclone today. Definitely will dominate the 14 team Church softball league. I can still HMO in the other league Im in, but its not nearly as gratifying as hitting liners past thr 60 year old 3rd baseman.

3rd Base and Pitcher can be very dangerous - the most so in slo1 pitch. I've seen a 3rd baseman who was all-american infielder in college take a liner in the eye. (He said he never saw it, only heard it.) Also have seen a pitched get hit in the nuts (had to have one testicle surgically removed in the ER b/c it ruptured). The worst may have been the pitcher who lunged barehanded at a liner, and the ball literally took his pinky finger right off.

Personally, the worst is a foul tip back over a catcher's head right into the ump's face. Also, USSSA two-man mechanics put the base ump in front of 2nd base w/ runners on, and the ball can be a missile up the middle right at you!

that would be great if the nearest one wasn't an hour and a half away...

and no not anyone can play slow pitch softball....they might be able to hit the ball but you still have to field.

we played a team last night i've played with a few times....they are like an entire family that live and breath softball....its the first year they've played in our city leagues but they play all over the place. they play 4 weeknights a week AND they play tourneys almost every weekend....

i asked their SS what his BA is for this year. he said he's batting .815 in 171 at bats. he is like the area softball phenom and he's not lying. his first 3 ab's, nobody is on....smokes the ball over the ss/p hole.... 4th ab, 2 men on... our pitcher is shouting at the lcfielder..."you!" and i look at him and go, "dude this ball is over them trees" what happens next?

Image

and it was on a ball that he had no business swinging at. he swings an easton extended that looks like it has 4000 hits on it.

I finally started hitting the ball better last night. Wasn't the best, but better. Maybe by the end of the season I'll be back to my former self.

By the way, we were saving our best inning for the 7th......so its a good thing for you guys that we didn't play.......wouldn't want to run up the score.

Yeah, you were on last night...that was the first week I didnt have at least 2 home runs...that field was playing mind games with our entire team. We went from scoring 38 runs last week to whatever we did last night

Have you played in any of the tournaments over in Roanoke and Salem this year. We may get up a team from the lake to play in the last one in July I believe it is.

We won won a few weeks ago in Salem, then this last weekend we went 0-4 up there, Chick-fila beat us twice in a thrashing...not a good weekend...hopefully this weekend is better

So Im watching ESPN over the weekend and did you know that there is world class slow pitch softball? There was a game on between the US and Canadian national slow pitch men's softball teams (USA won 30-23).
