Idiots.

Don't get gas unless you absolutely have to. There is NO need to panic right now.
Wait a second, you're just trying to keep all of the gas for yourself aren't you! You can't fool me, I'm driving all of my vehicles to Kroger to fill up right now! I'll pay upwards of $7.50!

Already saw that all day. That's how places around town here at home are.

You can call me one of the idiots that said something about it, but rightfully so. I went to get gas this morning before coming home (had to so that I could get home) and while I was inside paying a drink the two people at the register were talking about what the prices were changing to and there was a piece of paper sitting right next to one of them that had $5.179 circled and regular unleaded right next to it.

Also, the oil rigs should be fine. They're built to withstand Category 4 storms.

Same in Richmond area. Lines backed onto the road. Idiots. Gas jumped from 3.39 to 3.69 in a matter of hours.

Sheetz near campus OUT OF GAS...

Gas in southern Ohio jumped from 3.89 to $4.29 today at a couple stations. Across the river in KY, it jumped 20 cents a gallon.

Doesn't take any real drop in supply -- all it needs is a perception of increased demand and limited supply.

3.45 down the street from me here at work, 3.33 just across the river in Schfourteenteen's stomping grounds.

It's $5.00+ a lot of places in the Greensboro area now. My wife went to fill up at Exxon near Friendly Shopping Center after work today and they had a sign up that they had run out of gas. She ended up getting it at Sheetz on Wendover for $3.68 a gallon and said there were probably 50 cars in line.

FIFY
(actually, BJ, I misread your quote and that is what I THOUGHT you were saying, taking total credit for the gas prices).

There were a ton of gas stations between here and Cullowhee that were out of gas. We ended up getting gas on the third exit we got off of at the second or third station we found off of that exit.

rumor has it, none of these stations are truly out of gas. A friend of mine went to the Sheetz on Wards, pulled up, took the bag off the pump and filled their car up. Not sure why they would do that, but that is just what they told me.

one of my friends works at a gas stations part time around here during the school year. he says that the station he works at says they ran out but really didn't. he says the reason why they did it is so that they wouldn't run out and to keep the prices down - they don't want to run the risk of being accused and fined for price gouging.

Even though they aren't price gouging (the demand is causing the price to skyrocket), often times common sense gets thrown out of the window when it comes to government regulations, so it's best to err on the side of caution.

At all the Big Horns around town, its gone to $4.99...in Farmville its $3.77 (I filled up before coming back to Lynchburg after church, even though I only needed a couple gallons...I filled up early on Friday b/c I needed gas, not for any other reason). Around most LBurg today, its been $3.89

This is what I was referring to when I said "idiots." Having to put gas in your car doesn't make you an idiot........rushing to the local gas station & placing high demand on the gas stations, enabling them to raise their prices, all because of rumors & mass hysteria does.

I put gas in my Jeep yesterday because it was on E....I pretty much coasted in the Wilco Hess on Wards. I paid $3.69/gal....which isn't much different than what we were paying before all of this crap.

One of those articles quoted sheetz as saying they weren't going to charge more until they absolutely had to. Well they had already raised their prices on Friday afternoon just a few hours after those articles. And then they ran out.
