If you don't think I've answered that you're either dumb or not reading.

I accept that we should submit to authority. I even admitted that I did by following the rules. I just asked how it was wrong to question the rules while submitting to them, and you haven't given a reason as to why it is, just that you shouldn't.

Which is exactly why they have relaxed some of the rules that were previously untouchable. Many may not know, but for a while, a few years ago, LUPD was stripped of the "Powers of Arrest." Why? Because someone thought it would help invite more students. Later, that was changed back, but it goes to show that there is a conscious effort to attract more students....even if it means changing dress code, convo, hall meetings, off-campus living restrictions, and/or curfew.

So basically TTL, there are rules set by the LW that do not make you a better Christian. If those rules are questioned, I see nothing wrong with that.

As far as turning people in....I never did that. I had plenty of people I could have turned in, but I didn't. Some, I let them know what I thought, respectfully, but in the end, it was their life & their choice. Many of those people would later thank me for taking that approach, rather than sending them to the Dean of Men or the Lynchburg Police.

Jon you cant complain about a single way LU works, you have no rules nor ever have had rules over you. You get around everything any way you can, and at that point I couldnt care less what crying opinion you have.

I think that if you respectfully bring the issue up and those in charge decide to change it that's fine. And, please read this...

This thread was not started in response to people who follow the rules.

That has caused a lot of confusion.

But if there is a law you follow, and don't think is fair, then bring it up someone who can change it. Don't just cry about it in a public forum, ESPECIALLY when we are discussing people who actually DO break these rules. It just makes it look like you are defending them.

ToTheLeft wrote:So when does it stop being "welcoming" and start being "worldly"...
When it starts allowing things to happen that aren't Christian. How is dressing a certain way "worldly?" Is there a Christian way to dress that I don't know about?
ToTheLeft wrote:And this school is so much better than most other Christian schools out there, so if you wanna go to a Christian School, this would be one of the best rules wise, if not, go to a State School with "substance free" housing and a good Campus Crusade program, simple as that.
Yes, it's better than a lot of Christian schools. That's why it's been so successful. For it to continue to be successful, and get to the level that Jerry envisioned, things will have to be changed.
ToTheLeft wrote: Watering down what makes Liberty, "Liberty" isn't going to help.
Dress code isn't what makes Liberty the school it is. You know what does? Requiring kids to take two Bible classes, two GNED classes, two Theology Classes, Philosophy, and Creation Studies. Teaching the Bible to every single student makes Liberty what it is, not some dress code or curfew. If you think those things make Liberty what it is you're grossly mistaken.

I'm not complaining about me. I'm fine with the way things are right now for me. I've said that multiple times. I don't want this stuff changed for me. How is it crying if it doesn't effect me? I have two months left of the rules, and then they don't effect me. Any change now would do nothing for me. This has never been about me but rather my opinion.

WHY DONT YOU GET IT????

Its not how somebody dresses. Its not the type of clothes somebody wears. Its the fact that MANY here at LU has any respect whatsoever for their superiors. That even if they know wearing a t-shirt is against the rules they will do it anyway. ITS NOT THAT HARD to be in dress code. Someone can not like the rules and thats fine, theres nothing wrong with that, until it changes your attitude towards the rules here. Until you start to find every loophole you can to do what ever you want.

Free at last! Free at last!

Well, let's see:
  • Just because you're using Scripture doesn't make you right. Even Satan could swing a Bible verse or two. Us saints can tell when the Word is being misused.

You're still on the same "all authority is right" kick that you were on after the High Point debacle. All authority is ordained, true. However, all authority is not necessarily right and to challenge the decision of authority is not the same as challenging the authority itself. Anyone who's ever had a happy 4-year old knows the difference.

You're actually encouraging people to leave the university b/c we don't need people who are going to "be like that". I submit that those people, in fact, need this university.

Addtionally, on a personal level, you accuse SJ of turning this into being all about him when the fact is you've made it about you from the very beginning. If you weren't being so dramatic -- "Oh! I'm leaving the board!" <six> "I'm back and you all are a bunch of sinners!" -- and trying to shout everyone else down, this thread wouldn't be 80 frickin' pages or whatever it is now.

Rocket is wrong. You don't have multiple personality disorder. If you did, one of those personalities would have told the others to chill out.
Re-commence.

Why can't you realize this thread, like many others, has developed into something completely different from the original topic? It's turned into a discussion of why change the rules, not what you originally started.

You really think I am misuing the Word?

I never called anyone a bunch of sinners. I called out Jon because he has said over and over and over and over... how he follows the rules, yet he took the Lord's name in vain. I called myself a sinner, too. I think you are missing about 75% of what I have said, and taking this chance to attack me some more because apparently no one here cares about me, just turning me into a joke. Can't wait to leave... and I don't mean this board...

Then please enlighten me: why should we change the rules?

I think this is what I got so far:

1) Becasue I like to wear shorts
2) Because it will bring more people here
3) Because I like to complain about any and every rule I can find that isnt in the Bible according to Jon the Super

Is there anything else?

Yes. No one is encouraging anyone to disobey authority. You guys are defining "submission" to being equal with "brain-dead" and that's not what Scripture indicates at all.

Seriously? Because that's possibly the most Pharisaical thing I've ever read. I mean, good God, that's hypocritical!

Yes, he was being very Pharisaical...

Yes he was being hypocritical.

He called me out, too, you gonna read that part? Especially when I never claimed to follow all the rules, I admitted I am a human and a sinner.

No, because you don't challenge SJ, it's not as fun. I am a much better punching bag.

Your second point was close to why I feel we should change the rules. Once again, it has nothing to do with me. I'm used to it. It stopped being a problem a month after I got here. I go to class in dress code. I'm in dress code as I type this.

I grew up in the punk rock/rock and roll scene. I know a ton of Christians who have tattoos, piercings, weird hair, like to dress certain ways, etc who would love to come to a place like Liberty but they're not accepted here (not by admissions, by the culture) because they don't look "professional" or "Christian" enough. They would have no problem abiding by the rules that are set for us to stay on the right path with God. I've personally talked to people at my high school and church that have said things like, "Liberty looks like a great school, I just don't want to live under all of those rules."

I have said over and over that I wouldn't have come here before jeans and flip flops were allowed. The moral rules (drinking, smoking, girls, etc) I have no problem with.

I agree that curfew is a tough situation because if you get rid of it, there could be a slippery slope of more and more kids doing things they shouldn't because there's no accountability for where they are. I think there could be a common ground solution though.

Personally, I'm perfectly fine with not allowing sweats or gym shorts. However, I think allowing t-shirts for guys and regular shorts for guys would not be a problem. The female dress code is perfect the way it is. It lets them dress comfortably and modestly at the same time.

I don't think there should be a hair code. Call me crazy, but if a kid wants to have long hair, more power to him.

I don't care how someone looks or dresses. I care about their heart and what they stand for. That's where my position stems from.
